Finding a Digital Camera that Completes You

Anonymous
Digital cameras are very different from traditional cameras in that you can have great pictures without having to print them on film paper. Often, all you need is a Flickr or MySpace account so people can see them. It should be said though that digital photography basically works with the same principles as film photography.

When shooting with a digital camera, light still goes through a lens and onto a receptive surface. Instead of film, however, digital photography stores information inside virtual spaces like a memory card.

Not all digital cameras are created alike, and there are actually models that cost a lot of money and then there are some that will only cost you pennies. The pricey models use CCD or Charge Couple Device in order to capture light. The cheaper models, on the other hand, use a CMOS device. Prices of digital cameras have continually declined because of the CMOS. The CMOS is cheaper to manufacture than CCD.

You may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices in digital cameras in the market today. As it is, many digital cameras have functions you don't know about, will never both about, and may never use. In choosing a camera, consider you need. In most cases, all you really need is a digital camera that takes pictures.

In this case, what you should look for is the quality of the images that a camera produces. This is invariably expressed as mega pixels. In general, the higher the pixel, the better the resolution of the picture.

Zoom is another important consideration. There are two types of zoom: digital zoom and optical zoom. An optical zoom actually shoots your subjects at a closer range with a protruding barrel that contains your lens. A digital zoom simply zooms in on a section of the picture information (pixels) and enlarges it.

Batteries are another consideration. You might want to buy a camera that requires only standard AA batteries rather than lithium batteries. You can save some money if you buy rechargeable AA batteries. Although lithium batteries last long, they are still disposable.

There are some digital cameras that feature sophisticated software for creating custom photos. Some digital cameras incorporate picture frame effects and multiple exposures. These features come in handy if you know when and how to use them.

Digital cameras at 12 mega pixels will require more storage space than a 3.2 mega pixel camera. Do not rely on your camera's internal memory. Buy memory cards along with your digital camera.
