Finding Evaluating Bids from Remodeling Contractors

No matter if you're planning a room addition to your historic downtown home or plan to install an outdoor pool in the newer area of your town, chances are you aren't planning to do the work yourself. Finding a great remodeling contractor is not an incredible challenge, but it's one which should be taken very seriously. After all, you want your remodel to be successful and add value to your home. Before beginning your remodel and choosing a contractor, you should consider getting evaluating bids from remodeling contractors in the area.

What to look for:

If you're dying for a swimming pool to soak in during the warm months or are in dire need of an additional bathroom, there are remodelers in the Bend area who specialize in your possible project. To help you choose a remodeler, you may want to collect evaluating bids from at least three contractors. Below are tips to look for within each evaluating bid.

1. Project details. One of the vital things to look for within each evaluating bid is an outline of project details. Remodeling contractors should include information on any electricity, gas or water changes as well as any structural elements which would be changed. Project details should also include a list of materials needed for the project and the grade of quality for each area of materials. The list should include costs for each item and any labor costs, so you won't be surprised with any additional costs for the project.

2. Work schedule. Something many homeowners forget to inquire about during a remodeling project is the contractor's work schedule. Some homeowners may be interested in the project getting complete in the least amount of time possible, while others may rather have specified hours of construction. For instance, homeowners may prefer all work be done throughout the week and not on weekends. In addition, before choosing a contractor you should inquire about other projects he or she may be involved in and what number of priority your project would hold ultimately in the mix.

3. References and certifications. Along with the estimate, the project details and the work schedule each evaluating bid should also include a short list of references and certification information. All remodelers you use should be insured and licensed to ensure you're getting the best quality work possible in the area. You can check a contractor's license with the State Construction Contractor Board (CCB).
