FINDING a JOB ONLINE

FINDING A JOB ONLINE

I think I've become a bit of a whinger! Since joining Yahoo Contributor Network I've obviously thought quite a lot about the type of articles I want to write and at the moment I'm thinking quite negatively. Not, I hasten to add about Yahoo Contributor Network which I think is excellent, but about online stuff such as dating sites and finding a job online.

For the past few weeks I've been looking for work and as a qualified college lecturer with experience of both teaching and training, I didn't think it would take me long. How wrong I was! Finding a job online is simple in principle. There are literally thousands of jobs 'out there' and applying for them online, although a little time consuming isn't really difficult. What is difficult is getting responses. I wonder why? I don't doubt those who are advertising jobs online get many responses - perhaps thousands in some cases - but they don't take the time to respond.

I guess if (and this has been true in my case), that if they are interested in you they will get in touch. However, they simply ignore you if they are not interested. Isn't it possible that the employers who advertise their vacancies online might formulate a standard email that simply says thank you for your interest in this position but you have not been successful on this occasion? Are simple good manners a thing of the past? For the most part they don't even say in their advertisements that if you don't hear from us by such and such a date your application has not been successful.

Perhaps such employers have forgotten what it feels like to be in search of work and to be ignored after taking the time to apply for jobs? Online job seeking can become almost a full-time job in itself as I know to my dismay! One wonders what one can do to become more successful at it? Perhaps there is someone 'out there' who can tell me? Perhaps too those advertising jobs online might take heed of what I've said and take time to respond to job seekers like me - even if it's simply to say "thanks but no thanks."
