Legitimate Computer Data Entry from Home
Let's start with the good news. There is real data entry work out there that you can get paid for. Companies see the value in outsourcing low skill level data entry tasks to an outside contractor. It saves them greatly on the cost of having an employee. They no longer have to worry about payroll taxes, health insurance and even the cost of someone taking up office space and a computer.
The best way to find these jobs is by doing a standard job search using traditional resources ranging from online job boards like Indeed or Monster and newspapers. Look under data entry positions. If you have a computer and the software to do the job, you would be surprised how many companies would be open to having someone work from home for the reasons I stated above. You never know until you ask.
Another way to find legitimate data entry work is to use a paid service. You need to be careful and do your research before giving anyone your money. One of the reasons these job boards charge a fee to access their openings is to separate the really serious job seekers from the people that are not. I have had good experiences with Go Freelance. There are others out there like Guru.com. But be careful. This is different than job boards like Monster. Employers who are posting positions are only interested in hiring freelancers that will work off-site. Another difference from traditional job boards is that you will now be bidding on the job. Basically you find a data entry position, submit a proposal and why you are best for the job. If they like you and your price, you get the job.
Data Entry Scams
You see the ads all the time, "Make a Full-Time Income with Part-Time Hours!!!!" That is your very first red flag that you will be completely wasting your time. Online data entry work that advertises like this really aren't data entry jobs at all.
Here is how it works. You see an ad that tells you how much money you can make working very few hours a week. All you have to do is pay a one-time fee that ranges from $19.95 to $49.95. Once you pay the fee you find out what the job really is. What you actually will be doing is placing ads on sites trying to get people to pay the same fee that you paid. If you are able to sign up anyone else, you get a piece of the fee they paid. That is not data entry. That is a pyramid scheme.
The internet is a great resource to make extra money online honestly. By taking your time to do the research and also having the proper expectations the opportunities are limitless. Whether you are looking into data entry or any other opportunity always take a step back and ask the question "Is this to good to be true?" By doing so you will filter out 98% of the scams you see right away.
