Finding Legitimate Work-From-Home Jobs

Maggie OLeary
The big thing in today's society is that more and more people are looking for legitimate work-from-home businesses. There are a lot of scams out there. This article will help you recognize and avoid some of them. The biggest thing to remember is that if it costs YOU money to get started, it's probably a scam, except in a few rare cases, as you'll discover below.

*In-home Call Center jobs: Places such as West-at-Home (www.workathomeagent.com), LiveOps (www.liveops.com) and Alpine Access are great sources for these jobs. They are usually always hiring, and all you need is computer access, and either DSL or a 2nd phone line, so you can answer incoming calls while you are connected to the internet. They offer very flexible hours, and the pay is pretty good.

*Mystery Shopping jobs: While one can't make a full living doing Mystery Shopping jobs, I have been able to earn enough money each month to supply gas for both my vehicles, with a little left over. I also get lots of freebies, including meals. To get started as a mystery shopper, you should first head over to www.mysteryshop.org, and get signed up. This gives you access to the forums, which is where you'll find most of your leads. Just remember - do NOT pay to become a mystery shopper - the company should be paying you. www.mysteryshop.org lists only reputable mystery shop companies. The site also allows you an opportunity to become a certified mystery shopper, for a small fee. Please note that certification is NOT mandatory, but may help you get more assignments with some companies. Whether you become certified or not, is completely up to you.

*Freelance writing: Of course, this article would not be complete if I did not mention Associated Content. Associated Content, as you probably already know, is a great way to earn extra cash, and they pay within a day or two of publishing your articles. If one worked hard enough, they could make great money with AC, and similar sites. It's all about how much time and effort you can put into it. You can also do an internet search to find other freelance writing opportunities. Keep in mind - if they want YOU to pay them to publish your work, it's a scam!

*Direct Sales/Network Marketing opportunities: If you are a good salesman, or even someone that just likes to talk to people, this may be a good opportunity for you. Most of these businesses, such as Avon, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Partylite, and Pampered Chef, do have an initial cost to get started, but it is possible to be able to make a living entirely from these businesses. I recently started sharing MonaVie with my friends and family, and am well on my way to becoming financially secure enough to quit my full-time job. It's all about the time and effort you have to put into it.

*Hand-made crafts: If you are crafty, use your skills to help increase your income. You can sell your crafts on eBay, or open a storefront at etsy.com, or ecrater.com. Home-made items are in high demand now, and this is a great way to become financially independent.

*Reselling items: This is more difficult, but can be done. It takes a lot of research, but once you find out what to look for, and what re-sells well, you can shop yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets for items that can be sold on sites like ebay.com, ecrater.com, and bidville.com for a nice profit. You can even sell your own unwanted items, as well. This takes a lot of personal research, and takes a while to get up and running, and may be more frustrating to some.

The main things to remember when you are searching for work-at-home jobs is to take your time, and do research before you jump into anything. Also, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And, in most cases, if they want you to pay for a job, it's not a good idea. Good luck in your journey to becoming financially independent, and let me know if you have any questions about the information in this article.

I am just reporting what is out there - I didn't recommend anything. People need to do their own research before jumping in to anything. :-)

Good ideas, and good advice about scams. I wouldn't recommend Avon, though :)

I agree with Stan. I think you should expand this one into an ebook. Great job!

Good article. So many people are looking for this kind of straight, honest information online. You could expand this article into a small ebook and create another source of income for yourself.
