Finding the Location for that Magical First Date in Modesto, CA

Patrick A. Patterson
Where to take a first date. That is the age old conundrum. The answer depends on how you are looking to wow that date. Are you looking to go all out with elegance and a night of culture? Or are you looking for something more down to earth with someone who enjoys being in nature? Or are you looking for something just laid back to engage in conversational explorations? Well, what follows is a suggestion for each of those scenarios.

If you are looking to knock her socks off with elegance, then have some reservations at the Hungry Hunter on Sisk. It is a high end steakhouse with a hunting lodge décor. The food is excellent, and the service quite good. However, after dinner, a show at the Gallo Centre for the Arts downtown would be the perfect complement. The Gallo Centre for the Arts has numerous live performances throughout the year from the Modesto Symphony to ballet, to theatre performances. Peruse the link at the end to find the upcoming event that would suit your needs.

For a more bohemian type first date, the J Street Café at the corner of J and 11th Street is a great place to just have a causal first date. Order one of their numerous coffee drinks or have a beer. There is loft seating where you can just relax and conversate and get to know one another. They also have a limited food menu. From there, it is a short walk to the Brendon Theaters to see a first run movie or the State Theater to see either a classic or foreign film in a remodeled classic theater.

If your date is more the outdoors type, there are many parks throughout Modesto. A personal favorite is Riverdale Park off of West Hatch Rd. This park has a large grassy field and picnic tables. However, the best part of park is the nearness of the Tuolumne River. A few steps down the gravel path and push aside some bushes, and there is the river. There is a dirt path along the river that goes for quite a ways. This offers some seclusion for you to enjoy the beauty of nature on your first date.

Finding that perfect spot for a first date is never easy. It helps to know which type of date you and she are looking for. It also helps to know what type of impression you are looking to make. Those listed above are but a few suggestions. Good luck and have fun on your date.
