Finding a Niche for Your New Website

Andrew Sharpe
So you are new to making money online and you want to jump start your Internet marketing career? Making your first $200 online can be done in as little as a few weeks. You do the work once, and get paid over and over again on auto pilot. What am I talking about? Creating niche content sites, and referring people to a product that you get a commission on. It is a lot easier than you think.

First you have to find a subject or more importantly a "niche". A niche is simply something that is less popular, or searched for by a smaller amount of people. So if you want to make a website about celebrities than creating a site specifically for celebrities over the age of 50 would be a niche. Like I said a niche is normally something less popular, and has a smaller audience than the main subject. A niche is something more specific. I'll give you another example just so you get the point. If you wanted to create a website about golf, then creating a website catered to children who want to learn how to golf, that would be your niche.

There are many ways you can find a niche. My favorite way is to go to my local bookstore and look through all of the magazines. There are a ton of small magazines that are targeted to various niches. As a matter of fact a new niche I've discovered is for people who like wooden boats. Not metal boats, not modern boast, but older and even newer wooden boats. That's a niche! My new niche anyway, just don't steal it! I'm just kidding. You'll be surprised at just how many smaller magazines you can find.

Once you're done looking at the hundreds of magazines its time to hit the books. You can spend hours in the bookstore looking for niches. You'll find hundreds of them if you take your time! I normally walk in with a notebook and come out with at least 200, depending on how much time I have. The ideal normally last a couple of weeks before I return for some fresh ideas. A good thing to do is to look at whats hot. Take notice as to which things are selling good, like the New York Times best seller list for example. You can even ask the store clerk which books they are selling a lot of.

When picking a niche you'll also have to figure out whether its something long term, seasonal, or a current event. For example if you went into the store and found a pumpkin carving magazine, and chose that as your niche, then that would be seasonal. Most people don't carve pumpkins in the middle of summer. It would be catered to the specific season, which would be fall. Make sure you know exactly which type of niche you are choosing. Do not choose a seasonal niche out of season, unless its soon approaching!

A current event niche would be something like Paris Hilton. You would write about all of the latest news regarding her. If something important happened, and if she ended up in jail again you would write about it. Niches like this are popular because people are always looking for information about current events. Its one of the easiest things to write about and really does require little to no effort at all. In essence all you would have to do is read an article or two and then interpret the story into your own words.

Now you know how to find a good niche, stay tuned for my next post where I will talk more about niches and doing the proper research.
