Finding Resources When Left Homeless After a House Fire:
Churches- Most churches are willing to help people who have been displaced by fire. From helping you find a place to stay to making sure that you have food and sometimes even clothing are just starters for what a church can do for you. Even if you aren't a member of a particular church, you can still get help from them. This is one of the first places you can look to for reliable and trustworthy help.
Red Cross- The Red Cross is there to help in times of disaster. They will help you through the night and talk to you about what to do next. The Red Cross has been helping people in the same situation for years and you can rely on the fact that they know what they are talking about. They can steer you in the right direction for help when you need it. They know how devastating loss of your home due to a house fire is. They will do everything they can to get you where you need to go.
Social Services- Social services can help you find places to get food and clothing after your have lost your home to a house fire. You only have to go to social services to talk to a case worker about what they can do for your situation. They will also have a list of places that have help available. They can even direct you to a homeless shelter if necessary.
Freecycle- When you are looking for items after you find a place to live, Freecycle can help a great deal. This is a website where people post things they are giving away or things they need. You can either post or ask for things on Freecycle and you will be amazed what you can find there. People offer beds, couches, clothing and just about any other item you can think of. If you don't have access to someone's home computer, go to the library and use their public computers to sign up for it.
Insurance Company- One of the first things that you need to do after a house fire is to make sure that you call the insurance company to make your claim. Until you do that, you will not be able to move into the future. They may also be able to give you information on a plan of action for you to take. That is why you pay the insurance company, to take care of you when things like house fires occur.
There are a lot of resources to pull from when you are faced with the loss of your home due to a house fire. Make sure that you use them all. It takes a while to get back on your feet but there are many people in the community who are more than willing to give you a helping hand. Lean on them when you go through a devastating house fire.

Post a CommentThank you for your article. I wrote a similar article on my blog fire survivors. When you have been through a fire any little bit of help really makes a difference. I found a lot of great things on freecycle also, like a camera and photo equipment.
