Finding the Right Hotel Near Walt Disney World

Tips on What to Look for when Deciding on a Hotel Near Walt Disney World

Greg Cooper
Where to Stay:

When selecting a hotel, try and stay as close to the Disney World parks that you intend on visiting as possible, as there are many hotels to choose from that fit this requirement. When beginning your search, try going to the individual hotels website that you are interested in staying at, it is here that you're likely to find the very best rates.

Oh course you may be tempted to stay at one of Disney's own hotels but if you think about it, you aren't going to be spending that much time in your room anyways and I think that the ease of getting to and from the parks from your Disney hotel hardly makes up for the high price of staying at a Disney themed hotel.

Keeping Food costs Down:

It's a good idea when deciding where to stay, to find a hotel that offers the convenience of having a small kitchen in its rooms. This will help tremendously in reducing your food costs while staying in Orlando. All of the Disney World parks permit you to bring your own food and drinks inside during each visit. You can usually pack a lunch and drinks for everyone for the day. Dinner is difficult to plan for in that in order to get your best value you really need to leave the particular park your visiting, but to do so doesn't make much sense in that you would have to pay to re-park just to get back in once you have left. All the food is grossly overpriced at Disney World so the small additional costs that having a kitchenette in your room will cost, is worth it. Having a free breakfast at your hotel is another good way to save money when staying in Orlando. Many hotels offer free breakfast to their guests. Make sure the hotel you select offers this service. Not only will it save you time with not having to go somewhere else to eat it, will also save you money.

Getting to and from the Parks:

Deciding whether or not having free shuttle service to the Disney World parks is important to you, is something to consider as well. At first I thought this was an important consideration but I don't think that it makes much difference, in that you end up having to rely on the hotels shuttle timetable to get you to and from the parks you are visiting. Although parking is expensive at Walt Disney World (during our visit it was $14 per car per day) by taking your own car, you have the convenience of entering and leaving the park at your own choosing. And not waiting for a particular shuttle to arrive at a certain time. Most hotel shuttles only leave once or twice a day for each park. During our stay for nine days, we did not use our hotel shuttle service once. Parking at Walt Disney world is usually pretty easy and they have a well organized shuttle service to get you to the park entrance once you park. So the distance you end up parking from the entrance doesn't really matter.
