Finding the Right Men's Vitamins

Men Need Their Own Vitamins and Supplements

Mike Burnside
For those who have not figured it out yet, men and women are very different. This is especially true when it comes to their health needs. If your man, you need to choose the right combination of vitamin and herb supplements to keep you healthy. Here are a few suggestions that every man looking to stay healthy should look into.

Finding the Right Multi-Vitamin for Men
There are lots of over the counter multivitamins offered by various manufacturers. Make sure that when buying a multivitamin supplement that you find one gender specific. Men and women have different hormones and different needs, as they get older. A gender specific multivitamin will address those individual needs.

An example would be iron. A women's multivitamin would have extra iron, as they need it restored once a month. However, extra iron for men could be detrimental to their health as it could increase their risk of heart disease.

Finding the Right Supplements for Prostate Health
Unfortunately, one of the side effects of men growing older is that their prostate tends to grow in size. A larger prostate can lead to benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, which is usually harmless to many men. It often means that as a man gets older, he will be making more bathroom trips. One way to help this condition is to take the herb palmetto. Many men find relief by taking this herb as a supplement.

Since prostate cancer is a leading cause for cancer deaths in men, preventative measures should include eating many lycopene-rich foods, such as tomatoes. Another supplement used by men who have prostate cancer is flaxseed. Taking flaxseed has shown to significantly slow cancer cell growth.

Finding the Right Men's Vitamin Supplement for Energy
Every man needs a pick me up once in awhile, especially when we are older. Your body produces something called coenzyme, a chemical reaction that helps your body convert food into energy. As we get older, our production of coenzyme begins to taper off. The supplement CoQ10 is a replacement for the body's coenzyme. This supplement will help men boost their energy levels and fight off fatigue.

Citicoline is a nutrient that men need for focus and concentration. Getting a supplement of citicoline has shown to increase men's frontal lobe energy and help to counteract declining cognitive function in older men.

Finding the Right Men's Vitamin Supplement for a Healthier Heart
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and unfortunately, it can strike a man in his prime. The best vitamin supplement for a healthier heart is increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids. If you are not eating a lot of fatty fish, you will need to supplement it with a fish oil tablets. Omega-3 is important to lower triglycerides and blood pressure, and decrease blood clotting.

Other supplements for a healthier heart are coenzyme (CoQ10), garlic, cayenne pepper and green tea. The compounds in green tea can lower blood pressure and your LDL (bad) cholesterol.
