When I was diagnosed with overactive bladder my doctor recommended that I look for a support group to join. I wanted one that would help me feel comfortable, help me answer any questions that I have, and that would also help me learn tips to control my bladder problems.
It took me a long time to research overactive bladder support groups. Hopefully this will help you find overactive bladder support groups easily and help you with your health concerns.
National Association for Continence - http://www.nafc.org/forum/
The forum on this site is very helpful and has a lot of good information. They have a very helpful question and answer section where you can get any overactive bladder questions answered. The question and answer forum is monitored by the NAFC so they can make sure the information is accurate. The NAFC site is also very helpful in finding out general information about your overactive bladder.
IVillage - http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/urinary-bladder/
This site is a very helpful site, mainly aimed towards women. This site has great helpful tips about how to control your overactive bladder. My doctor explained to me that while drugs will help certain people, oftentimes people get a lot of help from behavioral changes such as kegel exercises and watching your fluid intake. This site has other women suffering from overactive bladder available that can give you useful tips.
Health Central - http://www.healthcentral.com/incontinence/support-groups.html
This site has several support groups, each one dealing with different problems associated with overactive bladder. This is a nice site because it has support groups that deal with specific problems, so you will find people that are in a very similar situation. I like the fact that it is so specific, because when you are dealing with health problems it is great to talk to people that have heard the doctor telling them the same thing you have heard.
Often it is hard to find overactive bladder support groups in your area. If you are having a hard time finding a support group you can always try to start one. The first step in starting a support group is to find people to be part of it. A good place to look for people is your doctor's office. You can ask your doctor if you can post a message on a bulletin board or if he could let people know about the support group you are starting.
Support groups, whether in person or online, are an important part of dealing with your health. When you have people you can talk to, and that understand what you are dealing with, it makes everything so much easier. I know once I found a local support group I became much more comfortable with my overactive bladder. I hope this helps you find an overactive bladder support group that helps you.
