Finding Time for You: Easy Ways to Add a Little Exercise to Your Life

Quick and Easy Ways to Make Exercise a Part of Your Life

Laura Seeber
Americans today lead some of the busiest and most unhealthy lives in the world today. Full of stress, low on relaxation, many people living in these United States are trying to get into better shape. But who can find the time? If you're worried about getting in better shape, but don't think you can find the time in your busy schedule, consider some of these easy options for getting more exercise into your day.

Option # 1: Consider Taking the Stairs

If you work in office building, or live in an apartment, chances are there are a few sets of stairs in your vicinity. If there are, consider taking your flats to the office and take the stairs a few days a week. Walking rapidly up or down the stairs is a great way to increase your heart rate, burn a good deal of calories, and help shape your thighs and buttocks, common problem areas for many people.

Option # 2: Exercise While Watching Television

One of the things that Americans are great at is multi-tasking. This talent is a great way to add a bit more exercise into your life. Take your favorite television show. How easy would it be to stand in your living room, watch your favorite show, and do some simple stretching exercises? Or perhaps doing some step aerobics to your favorite music video would be a fun way burn some extra calories.

Option # 3: Walk to Your Lunch Date

This option is a great way to get out of the office, have a little bit of exercise, and give yourself a reward for your effort without a pang of guilt. So what could offer all these things? If the weather is pleasant, a walk to your favorite lunch spot with your office friends can easily fit the bill. Just think of it. You'll be among friends, getting your exercise by walking, and at the end you can chow down on some succulent foods for your reward. And don't worry about those extra calories in that piece of pie; that's what the walk back to the office is for.

Option # 4: Fidget

Surprised? Believe it or not, simple moving your arms and legs while sitting at your desk can burn quite a few calories. That's right, that annoying twitch of your leg under the office desk can actually do some good. Also, it's a good idea medically speaking to shift your position every few minutes to prevent blood clots. Besides causing a pain in your legs, these blood clots can travel to your heart or brain, and cause much more serious complications.

Option # 5: Work around the House

You know you lead a very demanding life, both physically and mentally. Besides your job in the professional world, there is also the family abode to keep clean, and the yard to maintain. Believe it or not, all that work you do around the house every week is a great source of exercise. Don't believe it? Go out and buy yourself a pedometer, and you'll see just how many steps, and calories you can burn in an average weekend around the house.

These are just a few ways that you can introduce a little more exercise into your life. As always, if you want to start a formalized exercise program, be sure to check with your doctor. Until that time, incorporating a few of these suggestions into your life is a great way to get the ball rolling.
