After contacting a Carson's in Lincolnwood Town Center, near the north side of Chicago, a fragrance representative said they don't have the fragrance and rationalized that "we don't get them all." However, Carson's does indeed usually get the latest scents outside of Macy's exclusives like Power of 50 cologne.
Macy's doesn't have the fragrance either. A perfume representative from the Old Orchard location said, "I have never seen it here. Maybe you can find it online."
Of course every store isn't entitled to have every fragrance, but even checking on both Carson's and Macy's websites proved that the Twilight fragrance isn't sold there online. Even Hot Topic's website, where the perfume initially released, doesn't sell Twilight perfume, although the specialty store does sell "Twilight" movie sweatshirts, T-shirts and jigsaw puzzles.
Amazon.com, which is usually a pretty reliable site to purchase online-only products, is selling Twilight perfume for $179.99. When was the last time you paid almost $180 for a perfume?
So what's the problem? Why is this perfume so hard to come by when teenage girls ran screaming to the theater when "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" released earlier this year, making $203.7 million at the box office for the third film and $222.3 million for "New Moon," according to IMDB? Even the four-part paperback books are available at a Walmart in Niles, IL for approximately $9.
Blogger Perez Hilton calls it a copycat fragrance, stating on his website that the perfume bottle looks like Nina Ricci's Nina perfume. Judging from the photo on Perez Hilton's website, it does indeed.
One other store location that was originally advertised as having the fragrance was Border's. But a Border's representative in the Uptown Chicago location at 4718 N. Broadway Avenue confirmed the reason why it's missing from their stores and on Border's website.
"They pulled it because the perfume bottle was copied from some other designer," the sales representative, who preferred to remain anonymous, said. He didn't state Nina's perfume bottle was the other designer.
Are the ingredients the same? According to an NST perfume link, Twilight perfume smells like lavender and freesia, the way Bella's hair is supposed to smell. The 2006 Nina perfume, however, has the following ingredients--lemon, lime, praline, candied apple, vanilla, peony, Moonflower, apple tree, white cedar and musk. It takes on a fruity scent like the bottle.
To add more confusion to the bottle similarities, there's also a Twilight fragrance by Sarah Jessica Parker with the same name. However, the smell of this fragrance has a more natural, unisex fragrance. Apple Bottoms perfume, which only has an apple attached to a clear bottle that looks nothing like the previous two apple-bottled perfumes, also has a differing aroma.
While getting Twilight perfume may be as rare as finding a vampire and a werewolf to fall in love with you, it's not completely impossible. Buying the perfume, that is.
