Finish Your Dollhouse Miniature Workshop Project
Here is How I Finished My 2008 MD State Day Project Three Years Later in 2011
Each and every wonderful miniature workshop offers a chance to bring home an unfinished or nearly finished project. Finishing the project is a challenge that few accomplish; most end up in a closet, on a shelf or tucked away with supplies and other unfinished projects. Not unlike The Land of Misfit Toys these projects join The Island of Mini Opportunities.
I was fortunate enough to discover that not only can these projects be completed but that several projects may be combined and items from swaps and table favors added to accessorize them. I just finished my Maryland State Day 2008 project (a mere three years later) and used the 1st Annual National N.A.M.E. Day 2010 cupboard project, items from swaps and gifts to help with the finishing touches.
As you can see in the photographs the project was a mere unfinished shell when I brought it home. I had a lot of instructions and materials provided at the workshop to finish the project. I had a bag full of gifts from other workshop attendees for possible use with the project. The project however seemed daunting; after all it took me all day at the workshop to assemble the shell. Here is the guideline I used to inspire me and allow me to finish the project.
Finishing a Mini Project:
Motivation/Desire
I'm not sure what the determining motivation was but I did decide that I wanted to finish the MD State Day 2008 project. I loved the fact that there was an interior room as well as an outdoor patio.
Sufficient Material
Checking the workshop bag showed me that not only did I have all the necessary material to finish the project but that I also had many gift items to use for accessories. I also had attended the N.A.M.E. Day 2010 workshop and wanted to place the cupboard in the interior room; and there were more than enough materials from that workshop to further help with accessorizing the project. Of course I had all of the glue, wallpaper, paint and other building materials that I needed in my stash of mini tools and supplies. I even had an arbor, fern stand, planted complete with clematis flowers that I had made in a roundtable, plant kits that I finished to use now and a red bead that I used to make a hummingbird feeder to hand from the arbor.
Time
Ah ha! This was the biggie for me. I recently had surgery and had more time at home now than I have had for quite some time. I knew that I could spend three or four days working on the project. Perfect. It did take me four days to complete the project.
As you can see in the attached photographs the unfinished project became a piece that I am proud to display. I love the landscaped patio with so much detail. A really small person could be very comfortable there; the inviting room inside beacons the small person to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. Ahhh!
