Fire and Ice Improvisational Grill: Food, Specials Make it a College-Student Favorite

Josh Cohen
Fire and Ice Improvisational Grill is a truly unique culinary experience. This restaurant allows diners to select a combination of meats, vegetables, pastas, and sauces which are then grilled on a large open grill. This phenomenal restaurant has a variety of locations. It can be found in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, Providence, Rhode Island, Lake Tahoe and Livermore, California, and a new location opening up in Birmingham, Alabama.

The first thing one notices when they walk into this restaurant is the inviting and lively atmosphere. Background music is played at a reasonable volume and is upbeat. The music is not distracting and is enjoyable for most. However, it is not so overpowering that it could take away from enjoyment of the meal. Seating is another positive at this restaurant. The seating provides an intimate setting because tables are not crammed closely together as is the case in many restaurants. There are limited distractions from your company as the waiter is only there to provide drinks, clear plates, and to bring the check.

Fire and Ice is an all you can eat restaurant. It is set up in a buffet style. It is this style that makes it so appealing. Customers choose from a large variety of foods that they can add to their dish. The size of each dish is not very large, but you can go back to the buffet line and create as many dishes as necessary. Fire and Ice devotes a section to each class of food. The buffet line begins with pasta selection. One has the choice from a huge variety of pastas that range from angel hair to rigatoni pasta. The line continues with vegetable selection. Every type of vegetable imaginable is available here including carrots, mushrooms, snap peas, pineapple, onions and peppers. This variety is especially valuable for people looking to dine healthful.

The next station is the heart of fire and ice. At the meat station one can chose from a huge variety of raw meats. One can choose from sirloin, chicken, turkey, meatballs, fish, and a variety of other meats. It is this selection that makes fire and ice a great restaurant. After meats are selected sauce selection begins. There are about ten to fifteen sauces to choose from, each of which is unique. There are helpful suggestions as to which sauce goes well with what type of food choice. These sauces add a great deal of flavor to the meal and are delectable.

Once the dish has been complete it is time to be cooked on the large open grill. The chefs that prepare the dish are charismatic and entertaining as they mingle with the guests and prepare the food. The food is thoroughly cooked and then served on a large dish which you then bring back to your table. Tortilla shells are at your table for those who would prefer to consume their creation in that form.

Service has been excellent during my visits. Waiters have been helpful in aiding those who are new to Fire and Ice and do not understand the process. Additionally, they check up a sufficient amount of times during the meal to assure everything is going smoothly.

Fire and Ice is a phenomenal restaurant and a favorite among college students. It is reasonably priced. Every Monday night is college night, which offers a decent discount to college students. The atmosphere and quality of food creates an enjoyable dining experience that is perfect for a dinner out with friends. It is something every adventurous eater should experience at least once.
