Fire Island Fire Devastation - Gay Community Reacts on Social Media

Roz Zurko

The fire blazing on Fire Island has many from the gay community in New York taking to the social networks, according to GaySocialites.com. The fire destroyed vacation spots that are frequented by the gay community.

Many of the postings on Facebook are from people that work and entertain during the summer season at the Fire Island Pines.

The fire was so big that 20 fire departments battled the blaze, with some called in from the mainland. As of early Tuesday morning, the fire was still considered "out of control." The fire was first reported at 9:15 pm Monday night. The fire has destroyed the Pavilion, La Fountaine and a bay front home.

Some of the postings on Facebook:

DJ Corey Craig - "BREAKING: Something cray cray is going on in Fire Island… I don't want to believe what I am hearing…"

Vito Fun - "My home is burning, if you summer in The Pines, it is your home too. If you aren't a Pines person, just close your eyes and imagine your favorite place in the world burning. That is how I am feeling right now…an overwhelming sense of devastation, like I am being suffocated.

We will rebuild. The Pines needs us more than ever now."

Frankie Cocktail - "lets us pray for the pines fire."

Marc Silva - "My prayers are with the Fire Island Community and all of our friends at the PInes!!!! I can't believe this WTF???"
