I knew something was wrong with that car. Nevermind its many drawbacks, your hybrid vehicle has the capability to set your garage ablaze!
Connecticut homeowners, the Connors, awakened at 4 a.m. one April morning to a fire in their garage. Also in the garage was their new Chevy Volt.
Being the good, environmentally conscious Connecticut couple they are, Storm and Dee Connors stood by their vehicle, although burned out as it was. They called in mainstream mediaEyewitness News to cover the event, the event being the firewall saving their home from burning down with the garage.
So much for the car and whatever saving of anything it did. The fire is under investigation, of course, but the cause lies conspicuously burned out in the garage. The hybrid vehicle batteries are thought to have ignited the blaze. All this, while the Connors spoke more highly of firewall insulation than they did of their hybrid.
On top of that loss for gullible motorists, the Federal government now launches a study. The study will spend $8.75 million in taxpayer money it doesn't have. The study will determine a result we already know. The study will put government grantees to work, giving substance to their paychecks at Americans' expense. The study is sure to show the fire risk from EV batteries in hybrid cars. This, we hope, will give pause to those with Chevy Volts parked in their garages.
If that, folks, is one of you reading this out there, stop and reconsider what you read before this.
This is a real example of "green" goodness being less than what you've been told.
It's an example of government interests guiding consumers astray.
It's the way public information serves only a few--the companies and cronies that make it big at your expense.
It's an example of mainlined environment propaganda having filled the heads of once reasonable people. Perhaps people like you.
Like the Connors, go ahead and fill your garage with government-backed products. But expect them to deliver more than you expected.

Post a CommentGreat article, Lorraine; it stands to reason that this would be a danger with electric vehicles, but it certainly wasn't being covered well in the press--until now!
This sounds a lot like the people we used to live next to years ago when they blew up a propane tank in their garage, which also took out our garage. Great firewalls!
Electricity can cause a fire???? Who knew? Wonder if there were too many VOLTS? Sorry...really lame joke.
I agree with Danielle -- unbelievable!
Crazy! Good article to get awareness out to the public, Lorraine. :)
Good information.
Unbelievable!
Rita, Nancy was decidedly unamused at misreading the title. As a new cat owner, she was horrified until she put her reading glasses back on.
Scary stuff. Great article.
Scary. I'm laughing at Nancy's cat comment.
