Fired Christian Dior Designer, Galliano, Apologies for Anti-Semitic Remarks

Wendy Dawn
Designer John Galliano, formerly a designer with Christian Dior, made a public apology for alleged anti-Semitic remarks made during a bar brawl caught on tape last week, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Galliano said, "Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behavior in causing any offense."

Since the incident the video tape made rounds on the internet and has caused a maelstrom of trouble for Galliano. The general public has been incised about his comments and faces prosecution in France. Anti-Semitic statements are illegal in France. The prosecutor's office in Paris has said that it intends to send Galliano to trial for the comments. The action is punishable by up to 6 months in prison. Galliano will make his court appearance between April and June.

Meanwhile, Galliano, disputes the claims that he made anti-Semitic and racist remarks. He claims, according to the Journal, to be a victim of verbal harassment and assault with chair. Galliano alleges that a patron of the bar took exception to his look and clothing which prompted the confrontation.

John Galliano is adamant in his own self-defense and claims, "I have fought my entire life against prejudice, intolerance, and discrimination, having been subjected to it myself."

Galliano has filed a counter defamation claim.

The designer was dismissed from The Dior fashion house following the appearance of the online video in which Galliano appears to slur the words, "I love Hitler." John Galliano had already been suspended following the bar brawl pending a police investigation.

Despite the suit and pending charges John Galliano's fashions will appear on the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week, according to NY Magazine.
