Fired Up - Official Review

Ryan Lopez
The latest comedy, Fired Up, hit the theaters on Friday, February 20th. This brought together the love of sports and romance with a comic twist. Although not recommended for kids, this is not the #1 choice movie to see. It is almost like a spin off of "Bring it On!", from the early 2000's. The fan's gave this movie a "so-so" while the critics say it wasn't worth the money. Although both said that it was better than "Paul Blart: Mall Cop", which was very successful at the box office. My recommendation: just go and see it for yourself. It is not certain how anyone will react to this movie. Due to to the low ratings, people are turned away, but what comedy movie actually does get good ratings? Most of them need to find a plot and romantic always seems the way to go.

The movie starts by introducing two girl-crazy boys, Shawn and Nick. They are star athletes and already have girls climbing all over them. Instead of going to football training camp, they convince the school's cheerleader squad that they are actually trained cheerleaders, and they get to go along for the trip. They say they are in "heaven" when they get to camp. 300 girls and 4 guys there: you could imagine what was going through their heads.

The movie had a slow start, and got funnier as it went on. The movie was very predictable, and you may laugh a few times, but it is not a "Laugh out Loud" movie. Fired Up also turns into a romance, like most comedies end up doing, and it begins to get less funny. The last 30 minutes were definitely the slow-going part of the film. As the end of the movie starts to come around, Shawn stops thinking about the rest of the girls and falls for the squad leader. I won't spoil the ending for you, so you can watch it for yourself.

So, my rating is a B-. I guess I can agree with the fans and a little with the critics. This movie is rated PG-13 for: "crude and sexual content throughout, partial nudity, language and some teen partying." The run-time of the film is about 1:30, so bring some snacks. If you are the type of person that loves funny and romantic, this movie is for you! Thank you for reading my review!
