Fireplace Cleaning: How to Clean Glass Fireplace Glass

Cleaning gas fireplace glass is a fairly simple task. As with any fireplace cleaning, always make sure to follow safety guidelines, to avoid injury. Also, be sure to read your manual, to see if their are specific instructions on how to clean your fireplace. These simple steps will tell you how to clean glass fireplace glass.

Clean Glass Fireplace Glass Step 1: Shut Off Gas
The first thing you need to do is shut off the fireplace gas. This will help keep you safe, as you clean your gas fireplace.

Clean Glass Fireplace Glass Step 2: Homemade Cleaner
To make a homemade cleaning solution, mix equal parts vinegar and water, in a spray bottle. Use this mixture or a non-abrasive glass cleaner, to clean gas fireplace glass.

Clean Glass Fireplace Glass Step 3: Remove Glass
If possible, remove the glass from the gas fireplace. If your fireplace has a crank handle, use the handle to open fireplace glass doors.

If your gas fireplace glass is held on by clips, remove the clips. Then slide out the glass.

If your fireplace glass is permanently attached to the frame, do not remove the glass. You will have to call in a professional fireplace cleaner, to clean you gas fireplace glass.

Spray the glass with cleaner. Wipe away cleaner with a paper towel or soft cloth. This should leave you with clean gas fireplace glass.

Still notice a foggy white residue on your gas fireplace glass? Dirty fuel can cause this to accumulate on your glass. Check with your gas fireplace manufacturer for cleaning product recommendations. I've had success using liquid Goo Gone. Use the cleaning product as directed. Be sure to rinse any residual cleaning product, after cleaning glass fireplace glass. You do not want to leave behind a combustible fire hazard.

Clean Glass Fireplace Glass Step 6: Replace Glass
Now that you have a clean fireplace, replace glass. Remember to turn the gas back on, as soon as you are sure it is safe.

    Great tip. I used vinegar to clean our fireplace glass when when we moved into this house and it did a great job. I don't think that glass had been cleaned during the past century. At least not the past decade.
