FireSky Resort Awarded Arizona's First Green Seal Certification

This past March, FireSky Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona was awarded Green Seal Certification, making it the first hotel in Arizona to receive such status. According to Jim Hollister, general manager of FireSky, "We are excited and proud to be the first Green Seal certified resort in Arizona. Our resort team has worked hard to complete the application and make adjustments to our property to earn this designation. We feel our efforts underscore our commitment to sustainable business practices and a greener community."

What is Green Seal Certification?
To achieve Green Seal Certification, a service or product must adhere to strict criteria to meet the environmental standard for its category. Properties must meet standards in waste minimization, energy conservation and management, pollution prevention, waste water management, management of fresh water resources and be environmentally conscious in their purchasing. Kimptom Hotels, the parent company for FireSky Resort, is aggressively pursuing Green Seal Certification for all properties in the company. Currently 46 of the company's 50 hotels have begun the extensive Green Seal application process, of which 23 hotels have already been awarded certification.

What type of green efforts are taking place at FireSky Resort?
Numerous adjustments have taken place at FireSky Resort to achieve this special green recognition. FireSky has created recycling and donation bins easily available to the housekeeping staff. Another adjustment was to create a compost program as well as changing the landscaping to allow for less water usage. The hotel also has the award-winning EarthCare program. This eco-friendly program implements the following: green cleaning supplies are used throughout the property; all corporate material is printed with soy ink on recycled paper; complimentary coffee used in the lobby is organic; recycling receptacles are used behind the scenes by housekeeping as well as designer recycling containers in every guest room; low flow systems are used for toilets, faucets and showers; honor bars are stocked with organic snacks and drinks; and unused amenities are donated to local charities. The efforts are paying off at FireSky in hotel reservations - over 20 percent of guests indicated that they chose the Scottsdale resort because it was eco-friendly.
