Fireworks Accident in St. Pete Beach Typical of Growing Fireworks Problem
In St. Pete Beach, 12 People Were Injured During a Fireworks Display Explosion This Fourth of July, and That's Just the Tip of the Iceburg as Far as Fireworks Casualties Go
When a 4-month old baby can get severe burns on its body just by being in the vicinity of a fireworks display, you know something is wrong with the safety precautions being implemented in fireworks displays all across America these days. In Montgomery County, near Houston, TX, on July 4th, the baby that this horrible accident happened to was in her blanket 30 feet away from where the fireworks were being shot from. One of the aerial projectiles from one of the mortar tubes that was firing the fireworks up into the night sky went sideways instead of upwards and landed on this baby's blanket and setting it ablaze.
The baby suffered second and third-degree burns on her arms and legs, causing her parents much anguish and heartache on the fourth of July, a truly horrible finish to what should be a day of celebration. The parents had to rush their child to North Montgomery County Fire Department fire station where paramedics had to treat the baby for fire burns before taking her to a memorial hospital where she is still being attended to.
ST. PETE BEACH FIREWORKS ACCIDENT HARMS 12 BYSTANDERS
When a set of motors that were being used to set off dozens and dozens of huge fireworks in the St. Pete Beach area of Florida blew out, 12 people who were in the area to view the fireworks spectacle were burned when the burning gunpowder and mortar that was emitted in the subsequent explosion landed on them.
The explosion also blew out some of the windows at the nearby Bon Aire Hotel. Four of the hotel workers were hurt as well, along with two other people who had to be rushed to a nearby hospital where they were treated for third degree burns.
MELVINDALE FIREWORKS ACCIDENT RESULTS IN DEATH
Commercial-grade fireworks seem to be the blame for the death of a Detroit resident, Danialle Barse, 27, when she was struck in the head after a firework that was being shot through a 3-inch mortar tube went off target. The deadly firework was hurtled violently off-course and flew in the air towards where Danialle was standing in a nearby parking lot when she was on duty working in the car wash located there.
Her 8-year old son also witnessed this tragedy while this was going on which makes this particular fireworks accident especially sad. A federal investigation has begun in trying to understand the exact cause of this horrible accident. The fireworks device in question is a box of 25 high-impact fireworks which were designed to go off in sequence in a grand finale that everyone was looking forward to. This latest fireworks accident is just one of the worst case scenarios that happened more this year than in any other.
FIREWORKS ACCIDENT IN MIAMI COUNTY KANSAS LEAVES ONE MAN DEAD
Brock Barrett, a 25 year-old man from Kansas was just trying to have a good time this July fourth holiday when he was lighting a major firework 4-inch mortar that exploded in his face. He was at a family party at the time around 9 PM on Tuesday when this explosion occurred.
These incidents should serve as a reminder that fireworks should never be treated as toys. They can be just as deadly as a shotgun blast aimed at your face if proper precautions are not taken. Let's hope that July 4th of 2008 fares much better when it comes to preventing fireworks accidents that result in burns and death.
