Fireworks Tutorial: How to Create a Purple and White Stripe Photo Frame

Jasmine Starr
In this Fireworks tutorial I will show you how to create a purple and white stripe photo frame. Please see the image that I have provided to see the ending results of this tutorial. This photo frame is fairly easy to create. First, we will create the frame and then we will add the photo and apply the effect to it. Open your Fireworks program and we will get started.

How to Create a Purple and White Stripe Photo Frame in Fireworks

Step 1 - Create a New Canvas

First, we will create a new canvas to work on. Click File > New at the top of your Fireworks window. Create the canvas the size that you need it. If you are not sure of the size, 500 pixels by 500 pixels is a good size to use. Select a white background and click the OK button.

Step 2 - Draw the Frame

Next, we will draw the frame using the rectangle tool from your toolbar. Select your rectangle tool and draw your frame on your canvas. You can draw the frame the size that you need. You can draw the frame square or rectangle.

Step 3 - Apply the Gradient

The next step of this Fireworks tutorial is to apply the gradient. Drop the Solid box down at the bottom of the window. Then click Gradient > Folds. Now we will need to change the colors of the gradient. Click the color box to open the gradient colors. Change the color on the left to # 8D4F98 and change the color on the right to white. Click off of the box to close it. You will need to change the position of the gradient line. Since this part is hard to explain in words, please see the image titled Gradient Line to see how your line should be.

Step 4 - Apply the Stroke

The next step is to apply the stroke to the frame. You will need to apply the following to the stroke properties. The stroke properties are located at the bottom of your window.

Color - # 90549B
Tip Size - 1
Stroke Category - Basic > 1 - Pixels Soft

Click off of the box to close it.

Step 5 - Apply an Outer Bevel Effect

Next, we will apply the outer bevel effect to the frame. This effect will give your frame that 3D look. Go to the bottom of your window and click Effects > Bevel and Emboss > Outer Bevel. Apply the following when the box pops up.

Bevel Edge Shape - Flat
Width - 8
Color - # 90549B
Contrast - 75%
Softness - 3
Angle - 135
Button Preset - Raised

Click off of the box to close it.

Step 6 - Importing the Photo

Now we will import the photo. Go to the top of your Fireworks program and click File > Import. Locate the photo that you want to import and double click it. Place your mouse on the frame and left click one time. You may need to scale your photo down if it is too large. Select your scale tool from the toolbar and scale the image down.

Step 7 - Apply the Inset Emboss Effect

This is the last step of this tutorial. You will need to apply the inset emboss effect to make the photo look like it is inside the frame. Go to the bottom of your window and click Effect > Bevel and Emboss > Inset Emboss. Apply the following when the box pops up.

Width - 4
Contrast - 75%
Softness - 2
Angle - 135

Click off of the box to close it.

You can crop your frame by selecting the crop tool from the toolbar. If you have any problems with this Fireworks tutorial, please feel free to leave me a comment at the bottom of this page.
