Where does one take a first date in Chicago without appearing as a dorky dweeb? Since, first dates are generally questionable, there's no need to invest more than $40. Not to mention, a low budget date is a smooth tactic for measuring her interest and maintenance ratio. The proceeding first date ideas in Chicago were selected to create the illusion that a modicum of thought was put into the date.

First, select the middle of week, when dining specials and freebie days are in ample supply.

The Art Institute of Chicago (111 S. Michigan Avenue -- 60602) is comprised of works from the world's most recognized artists. On Thursday evenings from 5 PM - 8 PM, admission is free -- excluding special exhibitions (i.e. Matisse). Across the street, two blocks north, grab a pint of beer at The Gage Restaurant (24 S. Michigan Avenue), an Irish pub, housed in a Chicago landmark.

As an alternative, all week long art exhibits are free at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington - 60602). Not to mention, the building is an architectural splendor, highlighting an exploration of various exhibits. Don't miss the Tiffany Dome on the third floor or the Landmark Chicago Gallery of various well-known Chicago buildings on the first floor. Next, head over to the Hard Rock Hotel (230 N. Michigan Avenue - 60601) to lounge, relax and sip on a cocktail.

On the weekend, for the afternoon first date, opt for a long stroll along the lake. Start from North Avenue Beach, heading south to Oak Street to the pedestrian walkway. Cross Michigan Avenue to the south side of Oak Street and continue to quench your thirst and satisfy her sweet tooth at Sarah's Candies (70 East Oak Street -- 60611). As a seasonal option, prepare a picnic basket and continue to Olive Park, right off the Ohio entrance to the Lake.

If she happens to be a carnival junkie, then Navy Pier - Chicago (600 E. Grand - 60611) accommodates an indelible first date. From a five to 10-minute Aero-balloon ride, ascending above Lake Michigan to the 150-foot high Ferris wheel, the epicenter assures enthralling fun.

Afterwards, head due west, the opposite direction of the lake to St. Claire, hang a right and go to M Burger (161 E. Huron - 60611)not be confused with Mc Donald's, where the most expensive item on the menu is no more than $5.
