First Date Ideas: Fun Friendly and Unique

I t doesn't matter if you best friend or your favorite website generates a first date. First Dates are always tricky often uncomfortable and more often than not the dates you remember as the worse. A little creativity though can make your first date the spring board for many more.

Most first dates go bad because of the choice of place and activity for the first date. The two common choices for first dates are movies, dinner or both. They may be tried a true but they are also boring.

Here are some fun, friendly and unique first date ideas beyond the tradition movie or dinner first dates.

8-ball corner pocket

Was there anything cooler than Tom Cruise romancing Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in The Color of Money? You don't have to be a hustler to have fun playing pool. If your date doesn't know a bank shot from a kiss all the better. Pool lends itself to instruction and human contact. Plus, at about $5 - $12 an hour for a table; it is the perfect pricing for a first date. TIP: Go to a real billiards hall not the local bar where you and your buddies hung out in college.

The Brooklyn Side
Bowling is an excellent first date for many reasons. Bowling is popular. It has no real size restrictions or strength requirements. The basics can be learned quickly. Bowling can also be done regardless of the weather and equipment does not have to be purchased. Moreover, depending upon the bowling alley, you may have a restaurant (at least food counter) and or bar. Three dates in one. Also, like pool, it is inexpensive.

Step Right Up.

Depending on the time of year you might take in a state or county fair together. You'll find a wealth of fun things you can do together-from playing the games on the midway to learning more about your area from the local-and strolling the grounds while you get to know each other will keep things light and lively.

These are just a few ideas, there are more of course. Shopping, walking tours, book signings etc. A newspaper (or the internet) is all you need to find many fun, friendly, and unique first date ideas.

Twist on a summer favorite

Indoor Picnic

Choose a room for your picnic that has lots of floor space. A living room or family room works best.

Make a big sun out of yellow construction paper and hang it from the ceiling. Hang a few white, puffy paper clouds from the ceiling, too.

Spread a large blanket on the floor.

Put on beach music and dress in shorts and sunglasses.

Turn on the lights and crank up the heat.

Get out the picnic basket and pack a meal inside it. Make sandwiches and lemonade and add some store-bought potato salad and cookies.

Arrange paper plates and napkins on the blanket and serve your picnic meal.

Wow... great ideas, but what if you're NOT a redneck?

Excellent ideas, Larry. You know, some of these ideas remind me almost of the kind of dates they had in the 40s and 50s. I used to read about them in old teen books and wonder why nobody ever took me bowling or roller skating. Dinner and a movie--DULL! Thanks for the article.
