First Day of School: Getting Your Kid Prepared

Todd Hicks
If you have children, are they old or almost old enough to start attending school? Before they get started, they need to be prepared. You will learn how to prepare your child for the first day of school.

The first thing you should do is get him registered. In fact, you should take care of the registration process as soon as possible. The sooner you do this, the more time you will have to prepare and the less anxiety you will endure.

The second thing you should do is talk to your kid's teachers. By getting to know them and asking them how they conduct their classes, you will know what to expect as well as the materials you need to obtain.

Once you get all of the necessary supplies, you will have to sort them out. In fact, why not have your child do it? It is important to have her label each folder and notebook by putting the name of one of her classes on it. This is beneficial to helping her develop organizational skills as she makes it easy to avoid misplacing her notes and class papers.

It would be helpful to start teaching him how to study now - if you have to buy or check out a good study guide in order to do it, so be it. The sooner he masters the techniques of studying, the less time he is likely to spend trying to comprehend his course material.

It is imperative to go over with her the rules pertaining to how to behave at school. Although teachers play a key role, it is not mainly their responsibility to teach the students how to do the right thing.

It is vital to give him your work telephone number, if you have a job outside of your home. It is essential for him or his school to know where to reach you in an emergency if you are not at home.

On the night before the first day of classes, you should have her create a checklist. This should represent each thing she needs to take to school every day. Once this is taken care of, you must have her put each essential item in her book bag. She must get into the habit of checking off this list every school night and making sure she has everything she needs before walking out the door.

It is essential for him to get plenty of sleep. You should put him to bed at least seven or eight hours before he must get up.

It is crucial for her to not be late. If you cannot always be there to wake her up, you must train her to set her own alarm clock to wake her up on time before going to bed.

You must get him used to traveling to school. If he is to take the school bus each day, you should walk him to the bus stop and wait until he boards the bus before going back home.

Take these steps to make the first day of school smooth for your child!
