First Hand Travel Guide to Mexico

f.w.
Mexico is a country of many faces and whilst I was on vacation I decided to get in as much as possible. I have a particular interest in history and one of the first things I wanted to do was to investigate the legacy of the ancient Myans. Mexico is a sun-kissed paradise which will definitely amaze and inspire any traveller. So, on with my vacation story to Mexico.

My trip took me to a beautiful sunny beach in Talum which is a favorite with holiday makers. From there I travelled on to Cancun which is approximately 60km away and the long white sandy stretch of beach was a wonderful turqoise color so I just had to take a dip. The next place I visited are the highly impressive Tulum Ruins which feature Mayan stautes that peek out and beg you to explore these fascinating ruins. This is a 12th-century city that is in decay however you could sill feel the presence of the people who used to live in the city.

I stayed in Talum for a few days and just had to sample the lip-smacking tequila on offer. I tried in straight, I tried in in cocktails, Margaritas, and any other way you care to mention. After a few days with a massive hangover I decided to venture on before I completely ruined my liver. My next port of call was one of the most interesting to me. I visited o the magnificant pyramid at Chichten Itza, The Maya standing at the foot of 91 large and very steep steps and it is impossible not to be completely awestruck and to wonder how the ancient Maya, the indigenous Native American people of the region) built this structure more that 1,500 years ago.

Can you even begin to wonder how they managed to build such magificient structures that have lasted so long. The people of the time had no modern technology, no cranes, tools made with stone and wood and the wheel had not even been invented. The stunning ruins at Uxmal are awesome. The precision is such that on every equinox, shadows are cast by its sides to create the illusion of a giant slake slithering down the building. These structures get to you stand and wonder at their mighty presence. It took me two days before I was happy to move on.

During my trip I tasted and sampled some excellent Mexicican Cuisine, fajitas out, real Mexican Cuising very much in. The cuising in Mexico is simple and includes fish and meat dishes and absolutely excellent sauces and salsas. There is lots of chilllies in Mexican Cuisine s be careful that you taste a little before you shove in a spoonful and find that you can't taste anything for the next week. I was off the tequila at this stage so I supplemented it with Sangria. Back on the road...what next?

I had seen the Mayan ruins, tasted every type of tequila, eaten and sizzled my taste buds into the middle to next week so I wanted something different....and I found it. I went to Playa del Carmen and went diving in the clear carribbean waters. The reef dive was a wonder all of its own and opens up a new world of experiences for the tired tripper. It is awesome and tranquil; totally different than anything I saw on land and I wanted more underground adventure. So off I went to the Yucatan Penisula where there is not a drop of water to be seen on land. I went and explored the Loltun Caves where you can see cave paintings which are thousands of years old and the stone colums are haunting.

My trip to Mexico was a wonderful experience. I took in historic sites that are older than the wheel, I dived in the beautiful carribbean waters, I nearly poisoned my entire body by drinking too much tequila, I sizzled my taste buds and it was one of the best holidays I have ever had. I set out with the intention to explore and did not want a "sun holiday" and that is exactly what I did. Perfect holiday with plenty of adventure.

I must admit the places you visited are beautiful and if that is all you saw no wonder you describe Mejico as a "sun-kissed paradise which will definitely amaze and inspire any traveller". There is nothing Mexican about Cancun.
