First Look at the Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Demo for PS3

Jennifer Amlie
I recently had the chance to play the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demo on the PS3 before it's released to the general public on April 21st. While the demo is just one map and mode, it looks very promising. Lost Planet 2 will release the full game on May 11th. It is rated T for teens.

Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Demo Level
In the Turbulent Jungle map, the area is lush with forests. This is quite different from the snowy mountains in the original Lost Planet. The map is filled with buildings, some with many floors that are great for hiding. The area seems to be a decent size. I didn't experience many glitches with the map itself. Although, starting a game took a few tries as the servers timed out. I'm hoping once the game is released, it will be smoother. In the level, there are robotic machines, activation markers to mark territory and special weapons to find.

Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Demo Game Play
The mode I played is called Elimination. The goal is to get 20 kills first. The controls are comfortable and easy to get used to. Targeting isn't hard and it's accurate. Re-spawning after you get killed doesn't take long, so you don't miss much. There are different places to climb up on and there are zip line cables to get you there in seconds. By playing smart and using the machines, kill streaks are possible. You can use melee attacks and grenades if the action gets too hot. Stats, leveling and unlockable items are all present.

Multiplayer Demo Weapons
In the demo, there is a pretty good selection of weapons to chose from. In heavy weapons, you can pick a hand cannon or grenade launcher. The are supports like shields. For long range there is a rifle and a plasma gun. In short range weapons you can pick from shotguns and revolvers. There are multiple grenade types such as hand, disc, dummy and plasma. The weapons are responsive when firing. Combat is similar to other multiplayer games like Gears of War.

Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Demo Replay Value
While it's difficult to determine the full replay value based on a demo, I can tell Capcom put lots of time and love into this. The full game will have different modes like co-op campaign, versus, and fugitive. There will be items to unlock and plenty of weapon choices.

Lost Planet 2 is shaping up to be a promising video game. The multiplayer mode is exciting and should be a rich, varied experience. Between this demo and the previous one, it looks like May 11th will be a great day for gamers.

It takes real skill to write a review based on a demo which are usually fairly small! Well done!
