First love can make you do things you would normally never do like joining a group you don't like just to be near your first love. Or telling all of your friends how in love you are, hoping they will tell because you don't have the nerve to do it yourself. Writing their name over and over in your notebook, staring aimlessly at it.
Just because you don't think about your first love doesn't mean you have forgotten. Looking back at the time in your life when being near that special someone was the focus of your whole life, the memories come pouring in. Like the way you felt the first time your eyes met. The anticipation you felt, hoping your first love felt the same way about you. Or the rush of excitement the first time you held hands, exchanged smiles and shared that first kiss.
First love is usually a turning point. When you met that special someone, likely as not, your appearance became a matter of extreme importance. Your taste in clothes began to change along with personal hygiene.
Experiencing love for the very first time can change your whole attitude and you become more sensitive to the feelings of others. Some call it puppy-love and consider it youthful infatuation. Call it what you will, but the feelings are intense and can stay with you for the rest of your life.
Then there is first spiritual love. Everyone, at some point in their life, begins to question the meaning of life. Why am I here? Is this all there is? Then the quest begins.
God is not hiding. He's simply waiting for you to seek Him;.
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." (Jer. 29:13)
However, so many times when someone finds God and realizes that this life is NOT all there is, they are filled with love for Him. Unfortunately, since God is spirit and can't be seen, many of us all too often fall into a rut of prayer and worship. We lose our first love;. The love we had for Him in the beginning. Jesus Christ warned the church of Ephesus:
"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love." (Rev. 2:4)
Obedience is our duty, after all we were bought with a high price. But, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)
Remember your first love.
