First Memory

April Fox
in the dark
watching the fire die
you asked my thoughts

i picked them up the best i could
knit them into something like the truth:
i'm trying to figure you out.

smile/melt/fear:
good luck.

half a year and i am
comfortable without the dark
to camouflage my eyes
early morning waiting,
knowing
we have fallen into this
the only place we fit
and the truth unravels from the one i told:
i was trying to discover
who we were.
