First Night Pittsburgh a Family Friendly Celebration Downtown

What are you doing on New Year's Eve? Ready to celebrate the New Year? Do you want to celebrate New Year's Eve by being with thousands of your neighbors, listening to great music, comedy, and dance, then, finishing up with a huge fireworks display at midnight ? Do you want to celebrate with your children and/or grandchildren in a family friendly environment close to home? Then First Night Pittsburgh is for you!

First Night Pittsburgh is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and is the ultimate place to be for family friendly fun. The celebration event begins at 6 PM and ends at midnight with fireworks. The headline musical act is international recording act, Tower of Power . The band is set to play at 10:45 on the Highmark Stage.

To get in on all the fun, buy a First Night Button for $8 at the Box Office at Theatre Square ( 655 Penn Avenue ). Buttons can also be bought at participating Giant Eagle Stores, or online at www.pgharts.org
Children ages 5 and under are admitted for free.

The First Night Parade begins at 8 PM on Penn Avenue featuring local area marching bands, giant puppets, clowns, and 'art cars'. Anyone can join in the parade if you are at 10th Street and the convention center by 730 PM.

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will feature two dance programs at CAPA high School beginning at 6 PM . Everyone can dance to classic R & B with Roland Ford (no relation to the author), at the Soul Dance at the EQT Plaza at 630 PM. Arthur Murray will offer free dance lessons at 136 Sixth throughout the evening. Learn to foxtrot, swing dance, cha-cha, salsa, and rhumba! Learn to dance like Bristol Palin!

Lots of kid friendly events will be happening downtown of First Night! Giggles the Clown will be at 5th Avenue Place. Juggler Joe Wagner will be there too! Magician Robbie Wise is at the August Wilson Place for the night performing his special First Night act.

Many local musical groups will be performing downtown, while theatre groups in the Theatre District will entertain with special shows. A complete list of events with more being added daily is available at www.firstnightpgh.com/programs.aspx

    Sounds like a real cultural experience going on there in Pittsburgh~If I were in the area at that time, I'd give it a whirl~My husband's home in W VA is about an hour from PIttsburgh~
