The last thing that you should ever think about bringing with you to Las Vegas is a stroller. I have long been an opponent of bringing children to Las Vegas since it is more of an adult destination. On my most recent trip to Sin City, I came to the realization of how many negatives there are to pushing a stroller around. I kept my eye out for stroller-related issues and ended up limping away with more than I bargained for.
Not Allowed on Casino Floor
Most of the Las Vegas hotels have postings that state that you are not allowed to bring a stroller on to the casino floor. All workers in these casinos keep their eye out for strollers and will be quick to point out this rule to anyone that is not adhering to it. I have seen people escorted off of properties for repeatedly ignoring this rule.
If you do not think that this is an issue, think about the fact that you cannot access most attractions on most properties without passing through the casino floor. If you cannot walk through the casino with a stroller, how are you going to see the attractions of that casino? You become limited in what you can see and do in Las Vegas when pushing a stroller.
Not Allowed in Restaurants and Shops
Another stroller-related issue in Las Vegas is that there are many restaurants and shops that are posting signs about how they do not allow strollers inside of their establishments. I overheard one store manager stating to an irate mother that this is becoming the norm across Las Vegas, and it is just a change that has to be accepted. He explained that strollers can harm people in crowded areas. I wish that I had taken this statement as a heads-up when I first heard it.
Strollers Can Harm People in Crowded Areas
A few hours after hearing the above statement, I was walking through the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. It was more crowded than normal and I found that I had to pay closer attention than normal to where I was going so that I did not get split up from my wife. Just then, I heard a thump behind me and felt a sharp pain in my leg. I turned around and realized that a woman had accidently rammed me in the leg with a stroller. Her apology eased neither the pain of having seven stitches put in my leg nor the annoyance of limping around for the rest of my trip.
Las Vegas is an area of constant distraction and this can lead to many stroller-related injuries. As parents are looking at the architectural wonder that can be spotted in Las Vegas, they lose track of where they are walking. As a jackpot siren goes off, people stop and turn to see if they can see a big winner. Don't forget about the fact that there are countless drunks hobbling around 24 hours a day. Strollers are not allowed in many areas of Las Vegas because they are not safe in Las Vegas for anyone.
