First-Hand Advice for New Students at Lehigh Carbon Community College

Britt Baker
Lehigh Carbon Community College (http://www.lccc.edu/) is the community college for residents of Lehigh County and the surrounding areas. Students go to Lehigh Carbon Community College, also referred to as LCCC, to get their associate's degree and often times as a head start for their bachelor's degree. LCCC also offers other special degree programs to its students. The Lehigh Carbon Community College main campus is located in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, while the other campuses are as follows: The Carbon Center in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania, the Donley Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the Morgan Center, in Tamaqua Pennsylvania. Online classes are also available to students.

Most LCCC students go to the main campus located in Schnecksville, although most students do not reside in Schnecksville. So, many new Lehigh Carbon Community College students are not sure what to do on campus and nearby. LCCC's campus offers a variety of amenities and activities for students on campus, including a student union, fitness center, student center and game room, athletics, as well as various campus groups and organizations.

As a new student at LCCC, consider getting involved in an athletic activity or a campus group or organization - or form your own! Lehigh Carbon Community College athletics include men's baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as women's basketball, softball, and volleyball. Golf, and extramurals (bowling and men's volleyball) are also available to students. The student organizations include Phi Theta Kappa, PRYDE, the LCCC Greens (which I previously led), the LCCC Japanese Anime Club, as well as many other student organizations. There are many student groups and organizations based on students' majors, including the Psychology Club and the Vet Tech Student Association. These may be a great way to meet students with your same major at Lehigh Carbon Community College.

Restaurants are popular meet up places for students before, between or after classes, and Schnecksville has several different options perfect for new students! The Schnecksville Diner, for example, is becoming increasingly popular, with it's very convenient location right across from the Lehigh Carbon Community College's main campus. The Schnecksville Diner is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers standard American fair - including breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the day. This is a great choice for new students to go with their new classmates and meet more students. If you just want a quick bite, check out Sam's Bagels at 4041 Route 309, Schecksville, Pennsylvania. They are open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m and offer ample seating. The over 21 crowd can try out the nearby Slider's Pub, and if you're in the mood for a filling dinner, consider Villa Rosa Italian Restaurant and Pizza (both are also located on Route 309 in Schnecksville).

If your on or near campus during the warmer months, be sure to check out Shankweiler's Drive-in Theatre, America's oldest drive-in! Shankweiler's is located just minutes away from Lehigh Carbon Community College's main campus at 4540 Shankweiler Road in Orefield - just off of Route 309.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and to have fun with new friends on or not far from LCCC's campus. Enjoy your exploring!
