First-Person: Washington Democratic Presidential Caucus

My Experience at "Solutions for America" with Hillary Clinton

Idalia Benavides
TACOMA, Washington, - On February 8th, 2008 I made my way to the city of Tacoma, Washington for a day I will never forget. If Senator Hillary Clinton does not win the Democratic Presidential bid to run for president in 2008, I will still always remember the day I got to hear her, her plans for the people in the United States, and her life goals in general.

My Day In Tacoma, Washington
The event I was going to be attending wasn't set to begin until 10:15am, however I woke up at 6am, anxious and creating scenarios of how things would be inside the Memorial Field House where I would get to see the presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton for the first time ever. I also made sure to check my email again to see that I had reserved my spot to the even correctly, and to see if I needed to pick up my ticket somewhere.

Before making my way out to the University of Puget Sound, I decided to stop at the near by McDonalds to grab some breakfast. I was about two miles from the University and I could hear people talking about how Hillary would be making an appearance today. I arrived at the University around 9:10am, and there was already many people outside waiting in lines to get into the building. They were also all sharing their favorite things about Hillary, and even about their Hillary for President signs.

"Solutions for America" Town Hall With Hillary Clinton
Before getting into the questions portion of the event, Senator Clinton made a speech where she explained how things were in America in the present, and how she had met people in various states that were affected because of these things. Once she did that, she laid out her plan completely. She did her best to not leave anything out, as she knew that people in this town wanted answers. The senator answered as many questions as possible. She was very attentive, and gave in depth answers to some of the questions I was most looking forward to getting answers for; I was very content and satisfied with what she said. I'd put my trust in her.

The Atmosphere Inside Memorial Field House
Before the even started I met a couple of women who were so set on asking questions to the Senator Hillary Clinton once we were all inside. Everyone was discussing what they'd ask if they had the chance. I would have asked "How would you ensure that even the people who couldn't afford health insurance at a very low price, be taken care of?" I know of many people, myself included, who can't afford health care no matter what the price for it is.

After the even had finished the atmosphere inside Memorial Field House was still very energetic. People stood up and tried to get as close to Hillary as possible for an autograph or a picture. Although I was not able to get pictures, I did get my "I'm Voting For Hillary Clinton No Matter What" sign autographed. That is a memento that I will keep and cherish forever. It will especially be awesome if Hillary ends up winning the presidential bid for the Democrats, and if she wins the presidency.
