FirstWatch Daytime Café in Rockville, Maryland - Restaurant Review

Great Brunch and Breakfast Near D.C.

Jake Emen
Everyone is always on the lookout for a great brunch and breakfast joint. In the Washington D.C. metro area, one place you'll want to pay a visit to is the FirstWatch Daytime Café, located in Rockville, Maryland.

Perhaps the only problem with the FirstWatch Daytime Café in Rockville for brunch or breakfast is that there are so many awesome looking menu items that you may have a hard time narrowing down your choices. Some are innovative like their specialty Crepeggs, which offer a thin crepe combined with whipped eggs. Others are more traditional and you'll find classic breakfast and brunch fare as well.

Keep your eyes open for the Sensational Skillets, which offer a huge skillet stuffed with potatoes, cheese, eggs and your option of ingredients. You'll also find many tasty and unique omelettes, such as the Acapulco Express with chorizo, avocado, green chilies, onions, sour cream and salsa, or the Killer Cajun with spicy Cajun chicken breast, mushrooms and a special dressing.

There are over a dozen other fun omelet and egg combinations like this, so as mentioned the hard part is really just choosing what to get and limiting yourself to one. For lunch you'll find a full selection of sandwiches and wraps, and all day long you'll also find healthier options featuring lots of fresh fruit, leaner meats, egg whites and so on.

The details definitely count at FirstWatch. So when you order a cup of coffee, you get an entire carafe for the table. When you order water, the server will bring by a filled pitcher for the table. The portions are large and the service is friendly, and so far it's been a can't miss after going on more than a handful of occasions.

It's nice enough where you can take out family for an occasion, but also cheap and casual enough to go on any weekend morning or a free weekday for lunch. For a local Washington D.C. area brunch and breakfast spot, it's hard to top. It's busy during peak hours on the weekends, but you should not have to wait long to get a table.

There are several dozen locations throughout the country, with the bulk of their restaurants located in Ohio, Missouri and Florida. Locally for those in and around Washington D.C., in addition to the FirstWatch in Rockville, there is also one in Pikesville, Maryland and a location in Fairfax, Virginia.

I used to live in Hyattsville, I wonder if that is close to Rockville. If I ever get back there, I'll look it up. Cheers.
