Fisher -Price Rainforest Bath Tub Product Review

Steve Sands
As new parents, our plan with regard to bath time was to use a small rectangular storage container for our baby girl's tub. I know, I know...it's amazing how naive first time parents can be, because she outgrew that thing in the first 2 weeks! And besides, our baby wiggled around so much during bath time that it was hard to hold her head up and give her a bath at the same time. So I was pretty excited when my mother surprised us with a gift...she bought us a Fisher-Price Rainforest Bath Tub. So now that I'm a professional baby bath-giver, here is my review of this product.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this baby bath tub at about a 7. It's not the greatest baby product, but it does have some good features worth noting. For instance, I really like the mesh body sling with the little head pillow. The biggest problem I've faced in giving my baby a bath is that I have a hard time holding her head up and bathing her at the same time...all the while kneeling over our bathtub! This is a great position for inducing back strains. But with the sling, I can just set her down and have both hands free to bathe her. And because is made of mesh, the water just flows right through as I bathe my baby. This may seem like a trivial point, but believe me it is not. This is by far the best feature of this product.

The other thing I like about this tub is that when she gets bigger, I can remove the sling and have her sit on the little seat (well, it's more like a little hump). Then when she gets even bigger, she can just sit in the larger side of the tub that holds more of the water.

I can do without the little toys that come with the tub, which probably add to the price. The price, by the way, is the biggest issue with this product at about $30 retail. If we didn't get this as a gift, I'm not sure we would have bought it.

Quite honestly, I'm sure we could have gotten by without even having a baby bath tub. After all, I don't think my parents had one for me. But it does make things a little easier for us...and at this stage every little bit helps!
