Fisher-Price Recalls 10 Million Toys for Safety Hazards

Julia Bodeeb
A huge recall is underway by Fisher-Price, which is part of the Mattel corporation. Over 10 million tricycles, high chairs and toys are being recalled by Fisher-Price. There are safety issues with the products. Some of the Fisher-Price products caused injuries that required medical treatment.

It is always shocking when something like a tricycle for kids causes injuries. You would think that toy companies would have experts to meticulously check each toy product under development to ensure that the product was 100 percent safe for kids to use. But alas it seems that some products must be rushed to the market for after they are released it becomes clear that there are dangers to kids in the product design.

Recall of Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes

In this newest of toy recalls, Fisher-Price alerts the public that their Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes tricycle can cause injuries in children. There are about 7 million of these tricycles already sold. Ten children were hurt using these tricycles and six children had to have medical treatment after the injury, notes the Washington Post.

The Fisher-Price tricycles have an unsafe design. There is a faux ignition key sticking out near the seat of the tricycle. While the toy is in use, kids can land on the ignition key and get injured. There are reports of genital bleeding due to impact with the ignition key portion of the toy.

Whoever designed this product must not have kids. Why put something sticking up near a seat? Kids don't quietly sit on a toe. They bounce around a lot. Thus having a raised surface near the seat is sure to cause problems. Looks like Fisher-Price needs to add some new experts to its toy safety department.

Recall of Fisher-Price Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me High Chairs

Fisher-Price has also recalled over 1 million high chairs. Seven children who were injured from the high chairs required stitches for the injury, reports the Washington Post.

There are pegs located on the back area of the Fisher-Price high chairs. Some children have landed on the pegs and were injured by them. It looks like this company needs to work harder to ensure that their product designs are more streamlined and do not include protruding objects that have the potential for injury.

Fisher-Price Recalls Wide Range of Toys:

Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground

Baby Playzone Crawl & Slide Arcade

Baby Gymnastics Play Wall

Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium

1-2-3 Tetherball

Bat & Score Goal

Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway

A wide range of Fisher-Price products for kids have been recalled. In some of the products the wheels and the valve comes off the product and can cause problems with choking in children. Remove these products from the use by children immediately.

Regularly Check Kids' Toys for Safety

This recall is also a good reminder to parents to periodically check all of the toys their kids buy to ensure they are safe. When originally buying a product it is often wrapped up or in a box and not easy to examine for safety. Thus, once toys are home it is crucial to look them over to make sure the design is safe. Make that there aren't and loose or protruding parts that could cause injury or choking.

First Aid Training for Parents

It is also a great idea for parents to get some first-aid training to know what to do if a choking incident occurs. Places like the Red Cross regularly offer first aid training seminars. Choking can cause death very rapidly. It can occur from toys or from food. If a parent gets training before the choking occurs they will have more ability to leap into action to save their child's life.
