Fishing Books for Your Teen

Too many teens today spend all of their time playing video games. In times past, outdoor endeavors were a big part of most teenagers' lives. That can be instilled in teens today by buying them a book that shows them how great outdoor sports can be. Here are a few suggestions for some great fishing book that your teen will enjoy if he currently fishes, or if you are hoping you might be able to convince him to take up a new past time.

Fishing for Dummies, by Peter Kaminsky. The "For Dummies" books are designed for people who are just learning something new. "Fishing for Dummies" is no different. It is an easy read, and flows very well from subject to subject. If your teen is just getting started, or just starting to consider fishing, then this would be a great choice. Your teen can gain a lot of basic information from this book, including bait and lure selection, necessary knots, and information on fishing species.

Fishing Basics, by Gene Kugach. This is another book that is great for teens that are just starting out in fishing. This book covers all the information that is needed to get started, and be successful. This book covers all types of fishing, including bait casting, fly fishing, ice fishing and even trot line fishing. It covers how to rig your line, no matter what kind of fishing you are doing, and it covers when to fish for the greatest success.

The Funny Side of Hunting and Fishing: A Cartoonist's Guide to the Sports of the Great Outdoors, by Daniel Roberts. This book of cartoons will help share the lighter side of fishing with your teen. This book is guaranteed to bring a smile to your teen's face. This book contains about 100 comics focused on the outdoor sports of fishing and hunting.

The Greatest Fishing Stories Ever Told, by Lamar Underwood. This book contains 28 exciting stories written by various famous authors (and anglers) such as Patrick O'Brian, Ernest Hemmingway, and Zane Gray. Your teen never would have known that reading these authors could be so much fun. These stories will keep them on the edge of their seats, and instill in them the desire to get out on the water and make their own stories!

Hemmingway on Fishing, by Ernest Hemmingway. Ernest Hemmingway not only wrote about fishing, he was an accomplished fisherman. He could go on the trips, and then he could write about it like no one else. Most teens are forced to read Hemmingway, and they dread it because they are not allowed to read his best works-his outdoor stories. This book will be a big hit with your teen, making him see the excitement that is present in fishing.

Fishing Tips and Tricks, by Creative Publishing International (compilation). This book is a good choice for a teen that has some experience with fishing. It is a compilation of tips from some of the world's best anglers. There are tips covering nearly all fish species, and all fishing conditions. This book will make your teen a better fisherman!

Murphy's Laws of Fishing, by Henry Beard. This is another book that your teen will find humorous. We all know, if it can go wrong it will. This book delves into why things go wrong when you are fishing. Is it just happenstance, or are the stars stacked against you? If your teen is interested in fishing, he will enjoy the humor portrayed in this book.

They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?, by Patrick F. McManus. This book, as with all of the McManus books, portrays the life of an outdoorsman in a very humorous way. McManus very colorfully describes his exploits as a boy, fishing for trout in the west. This book was one that I read numerous times. In fact, any book written by McManus is worthy of reading, and would be enjoyed by your teen.

All of these books can be found on Amazon. You can also find any number of other fishing books. If your teen is interested in one particular kind of fishing, you can narrow down your search. There are many books about ice fishing, fly fishing, or deep sea fishing that might be of interest to your teen.

Fishing is an activity that is available within a short drive of just about anyone in the country. If you can show your teen just how much fun fishing can be, they may be wiling to try it out, and develop a hobby that will last a lifetime. These books may be just what is needed to spark (or maintain) interest in a great American tradition!
