The only way to fish on the opposite side of Kiwanis Pond is by boat. If you don't have a boat you will have to climb your way to the backside of Kiwanis Pond. It took my boyfriend and I approximately two hours to walk all the way around the backside of the pond. This is definitely not something that I would recommend to you. After walking half way around the pond I realized that if I couldn't make it back to the truck without going a different way, I was going to swim for it. The trail that used to be has been eliminated due to the high rainfall lately in the area. If you want to fish at this pond, stay in the areas that are easy to get to.
You can catch plenty of Bluegill at Kiwanis Pond. You can also catch a lot of very large bass if you fish during the right times. It seems that these fish will bite right before it gets dark and close to sunset. You probably wont catch anything other than Bluegill using night crawlers. There are also a lot of extremely large Catfish that are lurking in the depths of Kiwanis Pond. Since the pond is extremely deep because it used to be a gravel quarry, you can imagine the size of these Catfish. I have seen them first hand and their heads are much bigger than your head or my head.
If you are looking to catch the biggest catfish you've ever seen perhaps this is a good area for you to fish. If you love to catch Bass and you know what bait to use you will have fun catching Largemouth Bass. I've also caught several Bluegill that were bigger than the palm of my hand which my dad stated, "Those are the biggest Bluegill I've ever seen in my life." My dad has been fishing all of his life and he knows his fish. If you are looking to catch a record size catfish or a record size Bluegill, you might want to try fishing at Kiwanis Pond in Janesville, Wisconsin.
