Milwaukee sits on the shores of Lake Michigan, the sixth largest lake in the world and home to world class sport fishing. Milwaukee has several spots where you can try your luck with Steelhead Salmon or Brown Trout and the other sport fish to be found here.

This is a big lake and a long shoreline it is best to be informed before you start. The best way to start is to stop at one of the Milwaukee bait shops. The Bait Mart at 5325 W. They will set you up with the correct tackle, bait, and direct you to where the fishing is the hottest at the moment. On the south side of Milwaukee is the Fishing Hole at 3115 E Layton. They even have a fishing hot-line to call at 414-481-9090.

Shore fishing can be found at the Summerfest grounds where you get your choice of fishing in the mouth of the Milwaukee River or in Lake Michigan. Blue or silver spoons are said to be the bait of choice here. McKinley Marina off of downtown Milwaukee has dock and pier fishing. Further north is Doctor's Park which offers several jetties for fishing. They say the Brown Trout fishing is always good here.

Another interesting place to try your luck is at the North Avenue Dam. This is located in Caesar's Park. The Milwaukee River flows very fast here and this spot is prime for Steelhead Salmon. Use your old fishing gear, since you are bound to get snagged and snap some lines. Spring is the best time of year to try this spot.

For those of you who want to try big lake fishing, Milwaukee has several charter boats waiting to take you out onto the lake. These charters are captained and crewed by experienced, licensed people who will help you land that catch of a lifetime.

Many of the Wisconsin state records have been caught on these charter boats. Most of the charters include tackle, fish cleaning and bagging, and ice for the fish. The boats travels through the areas where the fish have been located trolling with several lines. Even the novice will be hauling in the big ones on one of the Milwaukee charter boats.
