Fishing Locations in Crescent City, California

Crescent City, California is home of the beautiful Redwoods and secluded beaches. Located at the very tip of California it is famous for the 1964 tsunami which killed twelve people, leaving over 100 injured.

This magnificent little town and history also has many places to go fishing where it be the Smith River which is only a ten minute drive from the heart of town. Smith River is known for the place to fish for Salmon and is the heart of the local Native American culture to do so. In August, there is a Salmon festival in Klamath which is a town only fifteen minutes from here. The Smith River is very beautiful and flows through the redwoods and makes for a pleasant fishing trip for anyone who fishes on it.

Another place to fish for those that don't have a fishing license to fish off man-made structures or just don't have a boat, would be the Jetty. The Jetty is located near the Battery Point Lighthouse and I myself have fished on it many times. I've seen groups of sea lions swim passed me almost every time and it's a definite personal connection with nature. I usually catch rock cod here and really decent sized ones too. During the winter it's not safe to fish on the Jetty though because the place is notorious for sneak waves which have killed people in the past.

Another really good place to fish is Whaler Island which is located by South Beach, near the Harbor. It also has a restaurant called The Chart Room near it which is well known for their superior fish and chips. Sea Lions like to hang around the restaurant on the docks which is always something nice to see. There isn't a wave problem on Whaler Island so it's a perfect place to go to during the winter and even the summer too if one feels like it.I find that my luck is best there where I catch mainly rock cod as well.

Another place to is Endert's Beach, ranking #5 in Sherman's Travel Top 10 Secluded Beaches, Endert's is a fantastic place to fish. I used to walk all the way to the end of the beach and fish off the rocks and catch all kinds of fish. This beach is perfect for clamming too. The only thing about it though is you have to watch out for bears for they are spotted here a lot.

There is also the ocean if you have a boat and want to take it out there. The Whales are here from April to October and can be seen even on the coastlines and I'm pretty sure you'd see them even in the waters if you took a boat out there.

Crescent City, Northern California is in my opinion one of the best places to go to if you want to go fishing or even hunting for duck and elk. It's a hidden jewel amongst California and is home of the infamous Ewok Forest, for not only was ET and Jurassic Park filmed here, but Star Wars was as well.
