Fishing with Pa

David Lanier
Whenever Pa and i start out to fulfill a fishing dream,
we make a wide detour that takes in all the streams.
We will not waste a single minute,
at one that is not exactly right.
We boldly stride across a farmers field,
after first asking if we may.
Happy as we check a "special hole" in sight.
Whenever we start out for a special lake,
we fuss and fume because it takes so long
to circle 'round the mountain.
At last we eagerly bait our hooks and cast,
then reel in and cast some more.
Even though Pa catches all the fish,
we each admit it's really fun,
fishin' from the shore.
Presently we eat a hearty lunch,
then one of us gets a special hunch,
and we start casting spinners all over again.
Then, just as we get going good, and catch a few,
the blasted weather
turns to rain.
So, we grab our stuff and run to the car,
only this time it seems twice as far,
as when we first began.
But anyway, we had a grand time,
just being together again,
fulfilling our fishing dream
.
