Textured tights are a fabulous look for winter because they keep your legs warm and are also very fun to boot. Tights made of mesh, or 'fishnet' material are no longer restricted to exotic dancers, but now come in a wide variety of colors and styles and can be worn just about anywhere. If you choose to wear textured fishnet tights to the office, you want to be sure your entire ensemble is conservative. While fishnets are now part of mainstream fashion, many office environments still consider them to be a tad racy, so dress down by wearing a skirt in a solid color that comes to the top of the knees, a pair of knee high boots with a chunky heel, and a long-sleeved sweater with a coordinating belt. Choose fishnet tights in neutral colors such as beige, brown, forest green, or cream. These are conservative 'autumn' colors, and will work well with a winter outfit. I personally like to match the color of my sweater with my tights, as I did with a pair of forest green fishnets and a long-sleeved forest green turtleneck at Christmastime.
Fun textured tights are the perfect thing to wear for parties. This is where you can really let loose and have fun with your look! A great choice for a party going girl is solid lace tights. These are not only the epitome of girly glamour, but when worn the right way can look extremely elegant. Most solid lace tights come in black, and these look simply divine with a basic black sheath dress. To avoid looking like a streetwalker, wear shoes with a chunky high heel as opposed to stilettos when wearing lace tights. Accent your dress with a sparkly choker necklace and statement earrings, add a faux fur stole and voila! Black lace tights also look great with cherry red or cobalt blue dresses as well. Fishnet tights in wilder colors such as red, blue, pink, or purple look fantastic with a basic black party dress. Wear any of these colors with a black dress and accessorize to your hearts' content! For a really fun look, find a pair of lace or fishnet fingerless gloves to match your tights!
If you live in an area that has severe winters, a practical thing to do is wear a pair of regular tights in a solid color and wear the textured ones on top. This is literally layering for your legs, and this is what I did for New Years Eve when I was in Connecticut. The end result was actually quite fetching, as the solid tights really brought out the mesh pattern of my textured tights out magnificently. Layering tights is wise for winter and is a great way to have fun with your look!
If you are ever in doubt of how to wear textured tights, look online at a popular website such as radaronline or TMZ.com and you will see many female celebs wearing this look. Most importantly, have fun and carry yourself with class and dignity!
