Here we go again, thought Marianne. Why do I have to go through this time and time again? I can't live this way, it's not worth it. I'll put a bullet though my head and be done with it.
The waitress stood by the table, tapping her pencil on the order pad, "it's now or never hon, I've got to move on to other customers", she said, attempting to conceal her impatience. "OK, OK, just one more minute", Marianne begged as she stared at the menu for what seemed an eternity. Why can't I ever make a decision, she lamented to herself. She was torn between the salmon roll and the chicken Kiev. Just as she was about to choose the salmon, she thought she really would rather have a vegetarian dish. This sent her mind reeling; now what?, she thought. There were so many choices, should she have the steamed root vegetables on a bed of brown rice, no that would constipate her for sure, maybe then the bean chili with corn bread? No, then she'd "gas" all night. She was about to say winter potato stew when her eye caught another dish being whisked by on a waiters tray. "Hmm, that smelled good, what was that?" she asked the waitress. "Chicken gumbo, do you want that? OK", the waitress said as she spun around and raced to the kitchen. But alas, she wasn't fast enough, she heard Marianne shouting, "no,no, that's not what I wanted".
The waitress had enough, "listen, are you going to eat here or not? If not, there's the door", she said pointing to the door. Marianne's eyes followed her gesturing arm to the glass door.
Just then, Marriane saw a van drive by with a huge fish painted on the side, it looked like a salmon. The truck belonged to a local fish monger, who often drove along that street. But Marianne had only recently moved to the area and she was struck by the colorful, vibrant depiction of a perfect salmon. She knew that it was a sign from above, that she should order the salmon roll. Her muscles relaxed, she breathed a deep sigh of relief. Then, in a strong confidant voice she said" I'll have the salmon".

Post a CommentLOL - very cute. When I was a teenager, I was so shy and self conscious. I had a hard time talking to people, even when ordering food out. On my first job, I would go in the deli and say (after practicing this out loud) Ham and cheese on a roll with mustard. I ate that for 2 months straight and still can't look at a ham and cheese sandwich til this day.
