Fit Reading into Your Life

Katie Bouchillon
Many people enjoy reading, but they find they just don't have the time. If that's you, how can you find time to read? Reading is one of the most pleasurable, most entertaining, and most cost effective activities a person can enjoy. In fact, most people don't need more time, they just need to make the best of the time they already have. Read during the cracks in your day.

Before you can read anything, you need to have a book with you. Paperbacks are the best option because they are lightweight and most fit into a purse or briefcase. Any topic, any subject you enjoy reading about, can be found in a paperback book. If you have five minutes, you can read. Reading can be done in line at the grocery store, on the bus, on the train, as a passenger on the morning commute. Reading can be done any time you are waiting but only if you have your book with you.

There are many ways to get a paperback book, other than the most obvious of buying one from a big box store or online. Your local library often has a paperback section. Used bookstores do much of their business in paperbacks and garage sales often have a table of just paperbacks ready to be snagged for as little as a quarter a piece.

A second option that insures you always have a book with you is an electronic reading device. Models include the Kindle from Amazon, or the Reader Digital Book from Sony. These devices let you download books into the reader. The advantage is having more than one book with you at a time, but you only have to carry one device. Again, what is most important is that you always have something to read with you.

Reading during the cracks of your day doesn't have to be limited to full length works. Magazines provide great reading opportunities. Whatever your interest, there is a magazine covering it. Magazines are also light weight and easy to carry with you. Magazines are great to have at home. Have one in the living room and read during commercials. Keep one in the bathroom and read then. Keep a magazine on your bedside table and read an article before you go to sleep.

There are many minutes in the day that can be filled with reading. Just keep a book, or a magazine, close to hand and soon, you will be amazed at how much you have fit reading into your life.
