You carry your iPhone with you for telephone calls. Right? What about when you exercise? Wouldn't it be nice to have an iPhone app that helps you stay physically fit? How about exercise databases and recording your best performance scores? Here is a list of iPhone apps that will turn your cell phone into your own personal physical fitness trainer.

NikeWomen Training Club, copyrighted by Nike, Inc, is a personalized training program that focuses on cardio, strength, flexibility, balance, and core training. The app includes training videos and custom workout programs.

Gym Buddy v2.5, developed by Anywise Enterprise, is designed to log your performance rather than show you how to exercise! It is an adaptable log where you define what you want to do and then track time, weight, reps, etc. It has graphs, backup/restore, and three countdown timers that can beep or buzz independently as long as the unit does not go into a power-saving sleep mode. Workouts and stats can be sorted or listed in a calendar view.

Fitview, developed by Senygma, tracks aerobic exercises, strength training and other vital statistics with detailed graphs and charts to help you spot trends and progress over weeks, months, etc. You can either create your own exercise list or use pre-set information.

IMapMyRide is an iPhone app that uses GPS to track runners (www.mapmyrun.com), cyclists (www.mapmyride.com), and other outdoor enthusiasts. There are two separate iPhone apps. It not only tracks time, distance (English/metric), pace, and performance measures like calories burned, but integrates with social networks like Twitter.

BodyBook Fitness Journal is a fitness log/workout journal that is perfect for the dedicated fitness enthusiast. There are pre-loaded and custom exercises that can be grouped into workouts for different days or training sessions. Data tracking reps, weight, time, distance, body weight, and BMI can be graphed to monitor progress.

Health Cubby Lite*Social Fitness, designed by AppCubby, allows you to set and track weekly training goals based on the input of meals, behaviors (vices) you want to avoid, cardio and strength training, and physical measurements like your bust, hips, waist, and thighs.

Cardio Track v1.6.5 is a simple app that tracks the times of activity sessions and additional notes. This simple diary will track any exercise from rowing a boat to running on an elliptical machine. Whether you hike or rollerblade, you can keep a simple record of your exercise and your workouts.

Personal Best, by Caloreez and JSS Development, will help motivate you during a workout session. Select an exercise, like sit ups or using a bicycle, set a baseline starting point and track your personal best. There is a exercise library that can be customized according to your personal needs. The library includes exercises that are based on weight, time, or number of repetitions.

Use an Internet search engine on a regular basis to scan the Web for "iPhone+apps+fitness". Don't forget to try Google's new Show Options feature in the top left area to filter blogs or reviews.
