Fitness Can Glorify God

The Body is God's Temple

How many of us know someone who looks really good and is also not a nice person? I bet you can think of a few. We need to be humble in the blessings God gave us. And in doing so, people will be drawn to us for a good reason.

When we workout, we are glorifying God. We are making his temple strong and filled with gold and jewels. Do not worry about people and what they think. Be faithful and know that your "work" will be rewarded. We all need to move and exercise. Some more than others. And it might make you feel good, it might soothe your soul to have body's natural feel good chemicals released. But you don't have to get a big ego about it. You don't have to think you are better than everyone.

You can be grateful that God blessed you with a strong heart and a desire to make your body strong and healthy. Eating properly and not starving yourself or binging on sweets and junk food also glorifies God. And if you have a bad day, be kind to yourself and start anew. You are forgiven. Be gentle with yourself. Just because some people are mean to you, you don't have to internalize it. I don't work out for more than an hour, and yet I lost forty pounds. I don't starve myself, yet I have cut out lots of sugar and junk.

God wants us to be strong and brave so that we can fight the good fight. Your battle isn't with weight but a battle with your mind. A I don't care attitude. You need to care. You need to want to take care of yourself because no one else can do it for you. Only you put ring dings in your mouth and only you can eat healthful food to nourish your mind, your body and spirit.

I promise you, if you eat simple, wholesome foods, you will feel better and crave the junk less. I bought some potato chips recently, but they weren't as good as I remember. Proper nutrition helps satisfy your cravings for junk.

We need a more spiritual approach to a healthy weight and I am finishing a book on overcoming that challenge. I have a lot of experience fighting cravings, and feelings and what people think. And I hope you will buy it. Life lived without faith is scary and lonely. We Christians need to reach out to the lost and show them that they matter. And if we are out of control with our weight, we are out of control. So we need to become good examples to others and glorify God through our bodies.

God didn't put us here to just live a life of leisure and sloth. We are to honor our bodies and work out. God rewards us with feel good chemicals when we exercise and yet we need to be humble when we look better.
