Fity Years of Veteran's Dayz

Mr. Chip's
Fifty years of Veteran's Dayz

My First I could never remember

I was a babe

But then I grew older

And Veterans day was about the World Wars, Korea and Vietnam

And the "Nam" was the closest to me

My dad's war and many of my relatives

And so I was always respectful of the Red and White and Blue

In school there was always the Pledge

And in the base movie theater the National Anthem

Then I graduated from High school

And the pledge and the anthem did not seem to matter so much after all

I went off to college

Where things were even worse

And I was never going to join the military

Then it just happended

I found myself living in Texas

Following orders

Those orders took me to Germany in the winter of 1984

Those orders to me to Spain in 1988

Those orders to me to Charleston Air base in 1994

Those orders took me to war in September 2001

Today I now live the songs I use to sing so long ago in Texas and other places

With my medals upon my chest tell my momma I done my best

I don't wear my uniform anymore because I did my duty

My times is over

But I am full of good pride as a veteran

When I look back at this day through the pages of my life

Knowing, hoping and praying my service made a difference.

(Dedicated to all veterans and our allies from all wars to the present) & (I wish to thank 2nd Lieutenant US Army Jesse Underwood for the use of his photo in my contribution for AC HOO-AH)
