Five Actresses Who Could Have Replaced Lindsay Lohan in "Inferno"

Ayanna Guyhto
Now that Lindsay Lohan has been dropped from the Inferno movie (a film based on the life of adult actress Linda Lovelace)-film execs are charged with filling the controversial role. With Lindsay's gutsy spirit and sexy image, she was a shoo-in for the character. She and Linda Lovelace even have similar sounding names. But alas, her ongoing battle with sobriety has prevented her from continuing; producers knew that keeping her on the project would be too risky-and ultimately, way too costly for production. Inferno's director, Matthew Wilder claims that Malin Akerman has already been secured for the role. But it's fun to think about which other Hollywood actresses would do well in the "Deep Throat" star's shoes.

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci is known for taking on pretty quirky roles. The Addams Family star's petite build and unconventional sex appeal would suit her well in Lovelace's role. Ricci is great at portraying angst-filled women. If you're still not a believer, just check out her film roster. Her work in The Opposite of Sex, Black Snake Moan, and The Ice Storm reveal just how thoroughly Ricci explores her dark side. Becoming Linda Lovelace on camera would probably be a cinch.

Amy Adams

This spirited redhead has quickly become one of America's favorite actresses. Maybe it's that syrupy, feminine voice or her fiery undercurrent. (Is she the next Nicole Kidman?) We've seen her climb all over Hollywood's "sweetest" movie roles (Junebug, Julie & Julia, and Sunshine Cleaning, for example.) But there is something about those twinkling eyes that screams "naughty little minx." Could she carry the lead in Wilder's "Inferno?" With a brown, curly lace-front wig and some contacts she would more than likely pull off Linda's character with flying colors.

Taryn Manning

There is a strong possibility that you're saying: Taryn Who? If you've seen Hustle & Flow, 8 Mile, or White Oleander, you are perhaps more familiar with her face than her name. Taryn is typically characterized in roles that are harried and a bit rough around the edges. Her ruddy sort of beauty would be sublime for a period film such as Inferno. Dipping into Linda Lovelace's coquettish sexuality might take a bit of work. But Taryn Manning is perhaps one of the few Hollywood actresses who could take on that challenge.

Chloë Sevigny

Chloë Sevigny is one of Hollywood's more obscure actresses. And according to Sevigny, that's exactly the way she likes it. The popular indie star has tackled some particularly daring movie roles-especially 2003's The Brown Bunny in which she participated in an un-simulated sex act with actor (and director) Vincent Gallo. Critics called the movie "one step above pornography." But Chloë has claimed no regrets about the film's graphic oral sex scene. With Sevigny's experience, a cinematic romp in Inferno would be a piece of cake.

Thora Birch

Thora Birch is yet another actress who isn't intimidated by unpopular portrayals on screen. The American Beauty star channeled teen angst with perfection. Her cinematic resume is quite impressive; she's managed to grow up quietly on screen, maintaining a stoic, yet potent effect on audiences. She's already starred as biochemistry student-turned prostitute Barbara Hoffman, in the sleepy thriller, Winter of Frozen Dreams (a true story.) Stepping into the shoes of a shrewd killer (Hoffman), Thora proved that she could easily slip into complex acting roles like Wilder's portrayal of Linda Lovelace. Ironically, both of Thora's parents (Carol Connors and Jack Birch) were adult film stars who appeared in 1972's Deep Throat.
