Five Adult-only Vacation Destinations for Any Budget

Sylvia Cochran
Before having kids, the idea of taking an adult-only trip seemed to have a bit of a naughty connotation. After having youngsters, a child-free vacation is the type of getaway that may well salvage a parent's sanity for at least another year. Where should you go?

1. Couples Resorts Jamaica: Couples only; no singles and no kids

If the offspring has disrupted the marital bliss in the home, visit Couples Resorts Jamaica to rekindle your romance and remember how you and your other half related to one another before the youngsters arrived. Pools with swim-up bars, beaches, scuba diving and golf might be able to turn things around.

Dress code is casual to resort chic for most venues; formal dining areas require cocktail dress. Staying at Couples Resorts is not cheap; although all-inclusive, a 2011 rates sheet shows that couples should still be prepared to spend between $303 and $412 per night, depending on the types of accommodations they desire.

2. Breezes Bahamas All Inclusive Resorts: Couples, singles and teens over 14

There will be no baby crying in the wee hours of the morning; moreover, do not worry about a toddler or preschooler pitching a fit. These youngsters are not allowed at Breezes Bahamas. Granted, you might run into a sullen teen (over the age of 14), but they are usually a lot easier to ignore, especially when they are not your own.

Adult-only fun includes Nassau's nearby casinos and child-free beach enjoyment. An all-inclusive vacation makes it possible to spend next to no money once at the resort, but the daily cost of a stay is of course higher than a comparable hotel in the city. Even so, consider Breezes Bahamas if a child-free getaway is a must.

3. Temptation Resorts: Topless optional for the 21-years and over crowd

Opt for the Temptation Resorts Cancun and Cabos and you will experience that naughtiness, which initially surrounded the notion of an adult-only vacation. Open to singles and couples, the venues are strictly closed to youngsters. This outfit is not for prudes!

Catering to the 35 to 55 demographic, there is the unstated goal that hook-ups are encouraged. Room rates vary, depending on occupancy. Per person, rates run from $165 to $646, depending on the type of room chosen and also the season.

4. Enrichment Voyages with Windstar Cruises: Not officially child-free but sufficiently expensive and specialized to keep the youngsters away

Unlike the adults-only resorts with their '21 and over' signs prominently displayed, Windstar Cruises does not officially dissuade parents from bringing children. Then again, the couple who will subject toddlers or preschoolers to a wine-making enrichment voyage has yet to be found.

If you do not bat an eyelash at spending between $1,899 and $5,599 (2011 prices) on a cabin for a seven-day cruise, this is the getaway you were looking for. Athens, Istanbul, Venice and Malta are just some of the destinations.

5. 1901 Eagle's Haven Bed & Breakfast: No kids, no pets; just peace and quiet

If all else fails, and if the ritzy, glitzy locales are not in keeping with the overall health of the pocket book, consider a child-free bed and breakfast. Case in point is 1901 Eagle's Haven. Prepare to spend between $85 and $150 a night for a leisurely retreat that opens up hiking possibilities.
